Question about Aprilaire 550 Humidifier

Constant water flow

Even with the humidastat off I have a constant flow of water. What could be the most likely reason and how do I trouble shoot it ?

I have the Aprilaire 550. I just installed it. I ran the 24 volt transformer off of a 110 volt line which is not tied in directly to the furnace line. I made sure the common lead on the blower motor was pulling at least 4 amps (mine was pulling 5).

The water continues to run when the furnace is not running. Any help would be appreciated!

I have the same problem with a Aprilaire 760. I'm guessing it's a bad solenoid but want to hear that from someone who can confirm this.

The night light turns on, nothing else works.

check the humidastat, its the setting on how much humidity you want . your supposed to turn on to high speed for a couple of minutes and then switch to low to keep filter wet. the humidity level will affect the on and off operation. other than that test the plug with another appliance such as a lamp to see if plug is good, the night light will work for awhile without power for some reason.

I have a whole house Honeywell E365 humidifier which is constantly flowing water to the pad, even when the heat is not on. What could be the cause ?

Hello, the most common reason this happens is because the solenoid valve is bad and remains open allowing water to flow continously regardless if the furnace is on or off. I assume you have either a sail switch or current sensing relay energizing the humidifier when the heat is on, if not thats another reason it would run continously.

What is the purpose of the sailswitch

The sail switch is in the cold air return it is wired in with the humidastat when your furnace goes on the air movement pushs the sail down inside the duct work that makes a contact the lets the 24volts to the humidastat. If the humidastat calls for moisture it turns on the humidifier but only when the blower on the furnace is on So in short it detects air movement

Water keeps flowing through my humidifier even when the furnace is not on. Consequently my water bill is quite high. How do I take care of this problem of the water continuously flowing through the unit?

There should be a solinoid valve that starts and stops the flow of the water, based upon a call for heat, and to ensure the fan is running during operation. There must be some failure with this valve, or a short in the connection causing it to run constantly. Hope this helps

Water flow from humidifier never stops. Even when furnace is off.

No, it will not stop flowwing if it is the water supply. A solenoid valve opens the flow everytime there is a call for humidity, but it stops at the humidifier when there is no call, so it will leak from that point until it is fixed or tightened.

Water keeps running into humidifier even furnance blower is not

This sounds like, the 550 transformer is not connected to the blower motor power connection (in parallel)

Aprilaire #224 celinoid not opening, water not flowing

it may be kickin on but you dont get water there is an metering device {little piece of plastic with hole} that cuts down on waste water it may be clogged to see if it is opening take a screwdriver and see if when humidastat is trying to work that you have a slight magnetic pull on the opposite end where water lines go

Water flow through humidifier

I installed this humidifier (and had a lot of trouble installing it!) and was surprised by the flow of water. Mine leaks out of the bottom of the unit so I haven't actually used it yet. I'll try to figure out why it's leaking this weekend. I thought there would be less water flowing through the pad. I suspect that the weight of the unit is causing it to not be plumb so some water is dripping off of the pad and past the drain tray.
