Question about Dishwashers

Fridgidaire dishwasher model # FDR252RBS1

The problem we are having is, that the dishwasher is not pumping out the
water! What could be causing this. Now the motor is working along with everything else. The dishwasher works, but when its time to drain it just
sits there.

yes, I hear the motor run and then stop and then it starts to fill. My husband installed it when we first moved in 4 yrs ago. It seems the problem with the draining happened after I did a cleaning. Then after that the next day I started it, and it made a few wierd noises, and kept running, and I figured well its still running, maybe something needed greased.. ha, heck if I know.

but when I went to get the clean dishes out I noticed water sitting in the bottom, figured it wasn't draining. So hubby looked at it, cleaned it, and ran it through a cycle, and it is still not draining.. Yes we have a garbage disposal, had it for almost a yr now.. I don't think its related to that though.

husband said he checked all of that and everything came out fine, and that there was no clogs or blockages in the house.

Any other suggestions.. Feel free to send them to me.. TY :)

first the wash motor and drain pumps are two seperate motors who in stalled the dish washer when you first turn the washer on you should hear a motor run then stop then start to fill is that what your hearing have you recently installed a garbage disposal

I have a year old kitchen aid dishwasher and during fill cycle it makes a thumping noise. The dishwasher every 5 or 10 seconds shuts off fill cycle then turns back on which I think is what's causing...

Drain Pump

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, the drain pump might be defective or might have some debris in it. This is a common problem.

Circulation Pump

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, and the noise is a continuous drone similar in speed to the circulation pump sound, it's likely that the circulation pump motor bearings have failed. Once this happens the circulation pump will have to be replaced, the bearings are not repairable.

Drain Impeller

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, the drain impeller might be broken, or there might be debris in the pump. Generally, to gain access to the pump the top of the pump housing will have to be removed.

Pump and Motor Assembly

If the dishwasher is loud the motor bearings, drain impeller or wash impeller might have worn out. All three of these components are part of the pump and motor assembly. It may be possible to replace one of the impellers, but the motor bearings cannot be repaired. In that case the pump and motor assembly will need to be replaced.

Wash Impeller

The wash impeller is a small, plastic blade. The motor spins the impeller forcing water through the spray arms to clean the dishes. If one or more blades has broken off of the impeller the dishwasher is loud. The impeller can also scrape against the pump housing if it is damaged, warped or bent.

Circulation and Drain Pump Motor

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, and the noise is a continuous drone similar in speed to the motor sound, it's likely that the circulation and drain pump motor bearings have failed. Once this happens the motor will have to be replaced, the bearings are not repairable.

Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve is an electrically controlled water valve. When it is new, the water inlet valve is very quiet. Over time, the diaphragm inside the valve deteriorates and deforms. This deformation interacts with the water rushing in and can cause a loud vibration, buzzing, squealing or other noises. If the dishwasher is loud during the filling cycle, replacing the water inlet valve may solve the problem.

Fridgidaire FDB1250REC dishwasher comes on, fills some water in bottom then cycle stops but can hear motor turning on and off, water will drain when I try to start cycle again.

This seems to be the "anti flood" device at the base of the washer is triggered due to water at the base of the washer. This safety device consists of a polystireene float and a micro switch that detects water leaks/spills and automatically puts the washer in pump out mode. You need to find the leak (hose or clamp)dry the base and rectifythe leak it before the washer works.

Water leaking on the floor at the door.

frigidaire models usually leak water at the top of the door and water enters in the door through door latch.2 fix this u can insert a double sided sticking tape behind the tub seal at the top so that door top sits tight against the top part of seal.
also u can remove the front door panel 2 c if water ia jumping out of tub at the bottom at lhs and rhs corners.if thats the case pull out the door seal and insert it back stretching it little bit and leaving some of it extended at both bottom corners so that it can stop the water from splashing out.

Fridgidaire dishwasher will not fully drain.

HI, i recommend checking the following areas to combat this issue.

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

Water not draining

You need to access to the drain hose, located under the bottom panel, and check that this is not clogged, if you do not find anything in there, check that the connection to the drain line outside the machine is not clogged.

If still no luck, then check that the drain pump is not faulty, that is possible.

You can find schematics and replacement parts by entering model number here.

Squealing sound

We have had the same problem and upon removing the main circulation pump, I found that the housing had come apart and had to order a new pump and install it. But the problem did stop there. The pump that discharges the dirty water has two stainless steel ball bearings in it and was worn out. So now I have to replace this pump also..... this needless to say, will be my last fridgidaire dishwasher. The unit is not ever six years old and might be used once a week.
