Question about Panasonic TH-50PX60U 50 in. Plasma HDTV

TV Won't Turn On

I've had the set for about 2 months, with no problems, and today I tried to turn it on and all I got was a red blinking light. I unplugged it and replugged it in, then tried to turn it back on. I heard it sound as if it was 'trying' to turn on and the screen got slightly brighter before it got dark again and the light returned to blinking. Any help would be appreciated, the manual is useless! 1year and three weeks old, picture suddenly went black and red led blinks 7 times. Paid $428 for a Panasonic authorized service technician, he replaced SD board and TV was back in operation for 6 days. Tech came back and replaced SD board & D board the SD board shorted again and now one horizontal line on screen so PDP is defective and now TV is worthless. Not only is my $2000 TV off warranty and dead in a year, but I'm out $428 on a repair that didn't work. Did the 2nd repair ruin the PDP? WWho should I sue?

    I have exactly the same problem: light flashes 7 times but TV doesn't turn on. This happened 3 days ago. We have bought this TV for 20 month. According to original poster's repair experience, maybe we should even not to try to get it reqaired so to save $500?

    I have the same issue. My TH-50PX60U is 22 months old. Yesterday I tried to turn it on and nothing. I don't have a red blinking light (no light at all) tries different outlets where other items work but no luck. I have a call into a panasonic authorized service center today. I'll let you know how this works out. Judging by the posts it sound like the TV are defective. I for one will never buy another Panasonic product again. There is no way a 22 month old TV should have these issues. I had a 50" Hitachi rear projection for 15 years and it never gave me a problem. I gave it away to purchase a flat screen to mount on a wall .... bad choice.... no more Panansonic products for me.

    I purchased a Panaonic 42" Flat Screen from Costco 2 1/2 years ago. My screen went black with no warning 2 days ago. The red power light flashes constantly but won't go on. Initially a blue light under the "Lamp" heading flashed, but that has since gone off. I get no picture and no sound. From what I read on the other postings, this appears to clearly be a manufacturing defect and it also appears that Panasonic could not care less about customer service. Has there been a class action suit filed? I would like to join. I guess I am out $1500. I will never buy another Panasonic product and will tell everyone I know to do the same!

    Had the same problem with the 7 blinks of the power LED. Panasonic Service said to unplug from any surge protector (mine wasn't plugged into a surge protector). If that didn't work, then try a different electrical outlet (on a different circuit in the house). I tried that (on a different circuit) and the TV came on. Unfortunately, now I have a vertical band about 1.25' wide extending down from upper right corner down approx to middle of the screen. Inside the band are intermittent vertical lines af various colors when there is a video signal. The rest of the screen is now fine, even on the original electrical circuit.

I purchased the TV using AMX card 18 month ago. They have an extended 1 year warranty on top of manufactory's. I just have this set repaired: replaced SD board, total charge is $550. I already file a claim and hope to get reimbursed soon.

Are you from US or Canada? I'm Panasonic authorized and allways Pana covered the warranty after 1 month from the expire date. Call Panasonic Viera service and tell them the story. I'm sure you'll get refound.
Anyway, a horizontal line doesn't mean the PDP is defective. It's one scan IC burned on the SU or SD board (depend where the line is). We allways replaced the SC bord each time SU or SD got burned. If after SD and SC replacement it still defective...yes the PDP has one scan line in short.
Call Viera and insist to get warranty. Let me know. Good luck!

Heard a pop , bulb blew out , replaced bulb , it worked for two days , now red light blinks three times pauses then three times and so on , tv won't turn off light won't turn off unless I unplug...


3 blinks indicates lamp door is not on or has not been reinstalled properly. This also could mean the lamp door switch has failed itself. Try removing the lamp door and putting back on, if that doesnt correct the problem then I recommend having the switch replaced.

TV Won't Turn On


My phillips 42" is the same way. Just started popping up the settings menu the other day and wouldn't stop popping up until I downloaded the software upgrade from the Phillips web site. But now, two days later it won't do anything but give that same annoying red blinking light. The customer service says to take it to an authorized repair center. sounds like they have a ton of these calls everyday. The solution is to buy it from Costco, and make sure you return it and get a new one before their return policy expires.
