Did you get the laptop from a reputable dealer? Reason I ask, is that the copy of Windows you have on your computer IS genuine, if so.
If purchased from a non-reputable dealer, you may indeed be a victim.
What usually happens is that the Windows Genuine Advantage Tool, messes up.
(Messes up. Sounded pretty 'technical', huh?)
This 'Tool' was implemented by Microsoft to deter theft.
Has been known to make mistakes a lot!
Especially after the Windows Service Pack 3 has been installed.
(SP/3)
Microsoft makes one Master disk of an operating system. (Windows XP being an example of an operating system)
Each copy sold to the public from the master disk, is a Genuine copy.
My advice would be to contact Microsoft Support. Have the Windows Product Key written down, before you do.
(It's on the back of a desktop computer, or up on the side of the computer case, towards the top.
It's a holographic sticker that has 25 characters.
5 characters in 5 sets.

I like calling because I like to speak to a person. (Once you get past the automated computer voice, to find the area you need, lol!)
Tell customer service that this is a new computer from (Place dealer name here), and the Windows Genuine Advantage Tool is messed up. It states you have a counterfeit copy of Windows, when you know for a fact it is genuine.
