Yes you can

the bios might be seeing it but windows might not, the possibility exists that windows is not able to view the full amount of ram installed try this. go to the start menu > accessories > system tools option and look for the system information tool, this will tell you more about the ram installed, note: windows dose on occasion report the wrong amount of ram when their is a 64 bit os installed or their is a 64 bit system

I think the Smallest and slowest Ram stick needs to be in slot 0

First step : Make sure the memory you purchased meets the following specifications

"168pin PC133 SDRAM DIMM" which should be easily accessible from wherever you bought it.

Also - You want to make sure the memory that was in your system to begin with is identical to the memory you are sticking in it to get it to 512MB Systems that are this old with "PC133 SDRAM" are very picky about what kind of ram you stick in them. Make sure wherever you purchase your memory from, has a guarentee that it will work in the make/model of your computer.

There is a good chance that your system needs a firmware upgrade in order to recognize the bigger memory. I found one in this page

Be carefull and follow the instructions since you could brick your system.

If that does not work, do not expend more money in that system (very old), just save to get a new one.

no 'coz these two memory card differ in size and slot especially when the mainboard doesn't support ddr2

Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700 with a maximum of 512MB per slot. 2 slots=1 gig or 1024MB ram.
