How to overclock

Hello.I have an ASUS P5VD2-MX SE MOBO , INTEL pentium D processor with stock heatsink/fan(i just ordered a Zelman heatsink/fan that should be coming soon), 2 gigs of Kingston DDR2 ram, (1) WD Raptor 250 gb SATA HD. I think that i am not getting the most out of my system, and want to overclock it. The only problem is that i am not sure how to do that. In my bios, there is a setting DRAM frequency. Default was 400 mhz, i set it to 533 mhz but no change. Can anyone teach me how to OC and where i am able to do it, be it via BIOS or other software. THanks

gaming. I already use it for gaming, and its fine, but it spontaneously lags.

I am using it for everything, gaming, schoolwork, movies, etc. overclocking is mainly a concern for gaming because my computer spontaneously lags while playing.

What do you plan to use this PC for?

  • Anonymous Jan 30, 2008

What video card are you using? You could possibly overclock that and not even have to oc the cpu/ram

  • Anonymous Jan 30, 2008

Go to nVidia and download a program called nTune. this is an application that you can use to tweak your video card. You can also up the GPU fan to compensate for the heat. it also has a stability test option. I would try this before trying to OC your CPU/RAM because it is a little more controllable. Hope this helps.

Can my P5S-MX SE motherboard go with Intel E5400 pentium dual core 2.7 ghz?

wrong that mobo is not blue and is not made by intel.com at all
it is ASUS..com
says so on the mobo
and at their web sets all mobo sold by them from 1995 to
2022, have QVL LIST ON CPU, ALL DO THERE.
SO FIND IT OR ASK THEM.
TOOK ME 3 SECONDS TO FIND THIS GOOGLE

https://www.asus.com/us/SupportOnly/P5S-MX%20SE/HelpDesk_CPU/

QVL = QUALIFIED VENDOR LISTS, RAM OR CPU
FROM 1995 TO NOW, AND ASUS.IS THE BEST DYI MOBO MAKER BAR NONE, AND GIGABYTES TOO. 2ND FIDDLE.

What is the best cpu in the ratio of performance:price wise for a ASUS P5VD2-MX SE Motherboard???? Because i want to upgrade from my Intel Celeron-D 3.46 GHz and i been looking at the core 2 duo's and...

I've haved used this particular mobo quite a few times and must say it's quite a reliable one . ( being a ASUS it would be.)

The best Performance vs Price rating from the best 1 to 3 in my opinion would be :

1)Pentium Dual Core E2160(1.8GHz, 800FSB, L2 1MB, rev.L2)
2)Core 2 Duo E4600 (2.4GHz,800FSB,L2:2MB,65W,rev.M0)
3)Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.40GHz,1066FSB,L2:4MB,rev.B2)

But the choice would ultimately depend on the application and what you use the comp for but i'm sure for most applications the No.1 choice would be adequate.

I've had many "happy" responses from customers with the same exact combinations.
Just make sure you have the latest BIOS before you swap out the old proc to the new one.

Ucode error

The bios needs to load a patch table that supports your processor. Go to the ASUS website and ensure that processor capatibility with your MB, and if there is a BIOS update for it.
