Hopefully this will help. On the back of the vacuum at the bottom the is a U shaped tube. Depending on what model you have it will either be a thumb release or a quarter turn screw head release. Remove that and check for a plug. Two things can cause the roller to not turn, 1) Broken belt or 2) Shut off switch. On the head, to the right there is a round large knob with a pointer, it must point to the lines (or carpet). If in the other position it is shut off for bare floors. Remember that it automaticly shuts off when the handle is in the upright position.
Hello :
try this please : switch the carpet/bare floor dial back & forth 5 times, ending on carpet. Tilt the handle back as if to vacuum upright & lay the vacuum on its side so it is resting on the side opposite the carpet/bare floor dial. Turn the vacuum on.
or try this also if the above suggestion didn't work :
Maybe the belt is broke. You will have to replace the belt before the roller can spin. You must have run over something in the carpeting like string or whatever to have it break. Happens all the time. Get several replacement belts to keep as spares while you're at it as nothing is worse then having to vacuum and no spare belts.

The motor that spins the beater bar is connected to a tiny switch, if that switch is not operating that could be the problem. If the motor is not spinning, that could be your problem (seized), or if you have a broken belt that could be your problem.
Check to make sure you are using the proper level with the indicator knob located on the front head of your vacuum, using to low selection (bare floor) on carpet can be extremely hard to push in on or the other direction.
The brushbar should only turn when you meet two conditions:
1) When you step on the front of the machine and pull back on the handle (recline the machine in other words)
2) The dial is set to CARPETS
The brushbar shouldn't turn at all when it is set to the BEAR FLOORS setting.
To rectify the problem - call the Dyson Helpline so that they can refer you to an authorized dealer in your area - the repair dealer will inspect the dial and figure out why the functionality seems to be switched. They'll be able to fix it for you.
Stand vacuum up and with it plugged in. Rotate knob between carpet and bare floor and back 5 times leaving it on carpet when finished. Rotate vacuum back from upright position and lay vacuum on the floor, rotating it onto its side. Turn vacuum on.
