Ex-s770 start to turn on then turns off

I used my camera on xmas morn and later that day was viewing pics and it shut off so i figured it need to be charged from being used so much. i charge in cradle then turned on camera the screen flashed and but the lens came out and then closed back up right away giving 4 beeps and the green light flashing. i can turn on the camera and go into the menu but the lens will not stay out. only thing i can think of is while opening presents i laid the camera down with the lens open and would pick it up and take a pic. it was working fine.

I have caught the lens and took a brush to make sure there wasn't anything like sand in the zoom and nothing. the camera shuts off right away. i pulled it out and wiggled it a bit it seems ok. somewhere i read about counting the beeps or lights to trouble shoot but now i don't see that anywhere. could it be the that something is telling it to shut off.

how do i check the start switch.

  • eagledi1 Jan 30, 2008

i can press the on switch or the play switch and it pops lens out and right back in and turns off. all the while making 4 beeps. when i would hold the lens open it still shut off. i can see on the monitor that it says automatic. i tried to reset to factory settings but it says no files. do you think somehow it got set to shut off ?

Woo Hoo fixed it. First I want to say thank you coolguy your attention to detail was very helpful. i had since the first day it went down pulled and wiggled the lens while i forced it to stay open but off, i tapped did everything then got a magnifier and on the lens where the shutter cover is it looked like it had something in it so i took a needle and scraped a little, then used a q-tip and then blew and it snapped back on. So thank you so very much. You get a 10 plus. And I want to thank everyone else who tried to help, I would rate all you but how do i do it now that i accepted ??

Is the camera rechargeable ? try to replace the battery or charge it full. Maybe you should remove the battery to make it reset the settign of the camera and fixed it back then charge again. if the camera boot but the lens cannot display the monitor then something wrong with the lcd , you can replace the lcd by repairing to the service center of the camera.

  • Priya darshan Jan 30, 2008

well i think it got shut. can u once try this trick it sounds kinda wierd but it worked for most of thm.

Gently tap it twice at the end of the camera to ur plam and it will work again.

just tap it very lightly against the bottom of the camera holding it upright

Do the following to fix the lens problem:

Fix #1: Remove the batteries from the camera, wait a few minutes. Put a fresh set of batteries back in and turn the camera on.

    Fix #2:
Remove the batteries, then remove the memory card. Then install the new
batteries, when you turn it on it should come back to life. Error E30
means you don't have a memory card installed, so turn it off, slip in
the memory card and turn it on one last time.

    Fix #3:
Insert the cameras AV cable, and turn the camera on in picture review
mode. Have no idea why this would work, except that quite a few people
have reported some success with it.

    Fix #4:
Place the camera flat on its back on the kitchen table, pointed at the
ceiling. Press and hold the shutter button down, and at the same time
press the power-on button. The idea is that the camera will try to
autofocus while the lens is extending, hopefully seating the lens
barrel guide pins in their slots.

    Fix #5: Blow
compressed air in the gaps around the lens barrels with the idea of
blowing out any sand or grit that may be in there jamming the lens.
Other variations include blowing with a hair dryer in “no heat”
setting, or sucking the gaps with a vacuum cleaner.

    Now
we're entering into the realm of potentially damaging your camera in
conducting the fix. Take care when conducting the following two fixes.

    Fix #6:
Repeatedly tap the padded/rubber usb cover on a hard surface with the
intent of dislodging any particles that may be jamming the lens. A lot
of people have reported success with this method. HOWEVER, there is
some potential for damaging or dislodging internal components with this
method, such as unseating ribbon cables.

    Fix #7:
Try forcing the lens. Many people have also reported success with this
method. HOWEVER, there's obviously some potential for damaging your
camera by using this method. Variations include pulling, pushing,
rotating or twisting on the lens barrel while hitting the power button.
Another variation includes looking for uneven gaps around the lens
barrel, and then pushing on the lens barrel side that has the largest
gap. While doing these, listen for a click that indicates that the lens
barrel guide pins have reseated in their guide slots. If you hear this
click, immediately stop and try the camera. The following photo
illustrates unseated guide pins that would cause a lens error.

    Goodluck,
Please don't forget to rate me as fixya..

Hi the problem is going to be with the lense motor jaming and not letting the lense come out all the way to switch the camera on to take pictures what should happen is the lense should come out all the way the go in just a little bit so that it focuses it does this so that it resets the lense for when the screen comes on.
If the camera has been put down with the lense out and any pressure has been put on it and put the lense out of line then this will cause the problem your having.
But the even bigger problem is their is no way of repairing it as most shops dont repair the smaller digital cameras so the chances of getting someone to look at it is a bit remote.
The only thing you could try is when the lense comes out try and pull it gently a bit further and see if that lines it back up as their a sensor on it so that when the lense comes out it switches the camera into the mode to take pictures but you can acess the pictures with the lense in so you know the batterys fine and that the circuit board is also fine.
It just the lense i know you cant get replacement parts for your make and model the only spares you can get is batt and cards so gently pull the lense if you can you cant damage it anymore than it is anyway can you.
Let me know how you get on ok.

I uploaded pics from my computer onto my Camera SDPhotosmart M537

If I understand you correctly, you put pics onto the SD card using the computer, then put the card in the camera and now can't see the pics? Is that correct? The camera won't recognize the pics because it uses a different recording system than the computer. Now if you want to take more pictures using that card, you will need to format it in the camera first.

Started defaulting to setup mode every time it is turned on

Hi!
It sounds like the internal battery which keeps the time and date running is empty and has to be replaced. You should contact your local Casio service center or other local camera service center, maybe they can get the battery from other broken camera.

Hope this helps!

2. Re-insert the battery after maybe 20 seconds and turn the camera on.

Unable to access vacation pics

It's not the battery get another charger and it will charge the existing one. I found one on Ebay for battery and charger both for 12.99. When I got it the charger charged the new battery and the one I had already. The battery is an NP20. I have the same camera and same thing happened to me it is worth a shot. The chargers that come with this camera must have problems because there are a lot of these same questions on here. Let me know what you find out hopefully your pics get saved. Thanks

Can you see pictures already saved on the camera? If not, the card may be corrupted. Try to format your card if you DO NOT have important pictures on it.

Won't turn on

Wow, me too I have the same problem and I can also view the slides! Except I know that it's not the battery for a fact because I went through the whole hassle of buying new batteries and a new charger where you plug directly into the wall and it still doesn't work. I guess no one has a solution... What a horrible defect. And it started not working when I turned on the camera and the lens came out, but I right away it broke down. And it took a while before I figured out how to shut the camera off to get the lens back inside.
