HP Compaq nc6320 Notebook Logo

The mouse pointer on my HP nc6320 jumps around intermittently and is very difficult to control. This problem only occurs when the laptop is fully charged and is running off the battery. If the battery is charging it's fine and also there is no problem when the laptop is running from the battery. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks in advance and Happy New Year 2010! Alan

Hi Alan,

From your description I understand that the cursor jumps intermittently. This happens when the sensitivity of the touchpad is more or high. Try lowering the touchpad sensitivity.

Here are the steps:

1. Click Start.
2. Click Control Panel.
3. Double-click Mouse.
4. Click Device Settings tab in the Mouse Properties window.
5. Click Settings Button to launch Touchpad settings.
6. Go to Configuring Sensitivity on the left side menu.
7. Move the slider towards left to decrease the sensitivity.
8. Also, click on PalmCheck on the left side and move the slider towards maximum.
9. Click Apply. Click ok
You can try reinstalling the touchpad driver from the below links:

Hello I'm using a hp compact nc6320 and my sensor

Do you use an external mouse or the built in touchpad/pointing stick? If you use an external mouse try another and see if the random movement disappears.
If you are using the touchpad/pointing stick for day to day use, plug in a mouse if you have one spare, go to the control panel in whatever version of MS Windows the laptop is running and do the following:Start Button > control panel > mouse (goto the hardware tab on the window that opens) choose the 'synaptics' device > properties > driver > choose 'disable' then ok. This should disable the touchpad if the random jumping stops then it is probably a physical problem with the touchpad/pointing stick, you may want to contact HP and request a repair.

Did you replace the batteries?
Could be a bad mouse. Do you have a friend you can try their mouse? If theirs works. Time for a new one. They do go bad. I've replace many of them!
