GE XL1800 Microwave Night Light Inoperative

Our GE XL1800 night light won't function. Sometimes the light does come 'ON', but then goes out after several minutes of being lit. The bright lights for the counter top works fine. So it shouldn't be the bulbs. Any idea of what the problem is that is causing the night light not to operate?

The information provided didn't help. The bulbs have never been replaced or removed from the unit. As stated in my posting of the problem, the night lights do operate occasionally, but very infrequently. I was very aware that power must be disconnected from the unit to prevent the control panel from being damaged while changing the bulbs.

In the unit's user manual provided by GE, it is specifically noted that power must be removed from the unit before attempting to change any of the bulbs. The way GE mentioned this in the manual made it clear, at least to me, that this was more than just a safety issue while replacing bulbs. However, as mentioned earlier, the bulbs have never been replaced or tampered with on the unit, and they do work at times.

Thank you for the attempt to help. Perhaps the control panel developed a problem on its own or has an inherent problem. That would make sense as to why the night lights are intermittent in operation.

Thanks again and have a nice day!

We see this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide for $39.95 postpaid.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

    Right.

Sorry, I thought I qualified the remark well enough when I said it "often" occurs when a bulb goes out or shorts.

I didn't mean that was always the cause.

Either way, I suspect the control panel, and we'd be happy to repair it for you.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.
Since the circuit boards are no longer available, repair is the only option. Details are here.

Microwave Cooktop / Night Light not working

I would check the door switches with a digital meter, set to ohms, disconnect one wire from switch and test for open and short by pressing door switch, if you hit one that tests the same when pressing and releasing, switch should be replaced.

I replaced the outside/night lights on my Kenmore microwave and the lights stay on. They are 3 settings, high, night and off and they do not cycle through, they are always on and won't shut off

Glass Surface Light Lens Cracks from Halogen lights use

The lights do get very hot, so they must be a sufficient distance from the lens. Was there an instruction sheet with the new lens? You may need to adjust the sockets upward. You might call a local GE-authorized servicer to see. Concerning the vent fan, this is a problem with the control panel assembly, which we repair nationwide for $39.95.
