Question about Panasonic PT-51HX41 51" Rear Projection Television
Hi, quick question to all the experts on here. I read through this forum recently and determined what the issue was with my TV. I needed to replace the two IC Convergence Chips (think that is what they are called). Anyhow, I replaced them today and now setting the convergence on the tv. When I go into the tv settings (not service mode), the first convergence setting is a large green + sign. Is the goal of this setting to get the + in the middle of the TV? I took some string and made an X on my tv to find the middle. I then lined up the green + sign so the center of the + was on the center of the X (the string). After that, then I lined up the blue and red, and then went to convergence 2 settings and made all the + signs look as good as I could get. TV picture looks fine to me, but my guide through the cable box seems to have a little ghosting. Just wanted to make sure the first step is finding the center of your screen with the big green +.
Also, is there an easy way to determine if the lenses need adjusting. I did move the blue when I had the original blue convergence issue and noticed it will make the blue more blurry, or not so blurry. But is there a screen or some mode to put the tv in to adjust these lenses so I can be assured they are as crisp as they can get? This TV has been hauled from a few houses in the past and I just have to think they have shifted slightly.
Thanks for any help someone can provide. I appreciate this forum soooo much. Reading though here saved me several hundred dollars with diagnosing the two IC chips that needed replacing.
The collar adjustments on the top of the crt assembles are simply focus... If you have never removed the crt's it is HIGHLY unlikely you will need to rebalance the crt in your endeavor to set convergence....
Next - never, never, never use some intervention signal to set convergence... Did I get enough nevers in there... Hook up a dvd player or good vcr and start with that as a picture... Set yor collars if they need adjusting.. At this point, and from what you've described just readjust your blue collar back to what you had...
Next, go back into the multi-point convergence and check to make sure you have each quadrant set to as close as you want... Then bring the picture back up and re-check.. If there is any ghosting when you hook this back up to your sat box or cable guess where it's coming from.. You got it, garbage in - garbage out...
With the digital convergence on that unit there is no need to jig the set. (ie: use a string to find center...) Some set require an overlay but their multi-point isn't nearly as complex as that unit...
In short, if your colors align to a white cross you got it!!
