Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router

1 Answer

Router Password I have a Netgear Wireless Router WGR614 v6. and I need to set up portforwarding to enable me to use Amateur Radio over the internet ie Echolink. I need to get into Netgear Smart Wizard as Echolink requires you to forward the 5198-5200 ports. I go into www.routerlogin.net and get the Authentication Required box, I then put in admin as username and password as the password, I have also tried 1234 for the password but nothing happens, I just keep getting the Authentication Required Box. I have even put the the default ip address of the router ie 192.168.1.1 and the Authentication Required Box comes up but it will not accept admin password or 1234. Have you any ideas how I can find what passwords are set for this router, I do not really want to press that reset button yet. Thank you for your help regards John Youde

Try admin and admin again for password. If that is not it try leaving the password box blank. Good luck Are you sure you did not change the password when you set it up the first time. If you did you have no other option than reset.

After doing a reset and a 30-30-30, the router is not sending out a wireless signal.

Hi bamavincents,

If you reset the router the settings will return to its factory state so we need to check if the wireless settings is correct. Listed below are the steps on how to access the router and the settings that we need to change or check.

- Make sure the router is powered ON and operational.
- Check if the Wireless Router Radio is enabled. A wireless adapter can only connect to an AP or wireless router if the wireless feature of the router is enabled. .
- Open an Internet browser and login to your router's setup page. Type 192.168.0.1 or http://routerlogin.net on your Internet browser. Then type admin as the username and password for your password. Password is case sensitive.
- Go to Advanced menu and click Wireless Settings.
- The Enable Wireless Router Radio box must be checked to enable wireless function on the router and Make sure the SSID is being broadcast and not hidden.
- Make sure that the wireless switch of your computer is ON before searching for your Access Point or SSID. If possible try another computer if it will detect the wireless signal. If after all steps and still not sending a signal there might be a problem with the router.

Thanks for usin Fixya.

Can't install netgear router WGR614 IN AN DELL INSPIRON1594 LAPTOP

The laptop/computer's wireless card may not have the latest wireless card driver installed or it is not enabled and working. Check Device Manager to see if is is working and enabled. I suggest you install the latest wireless card driver.
Next check the wireless card configuration, it needs to have the wireless router's settings, ie SSID and encryption etc.

Computer is not pick up signal from router

Note: You need to use a computer hardwired to the router to check the wireless settings.

1. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
2. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
3. A window will prompt for a user name and password. The default username is "admin" and the default password is "password".

Note: If it does not take password as the password, you might have changed it when you have run the NETGEAR Setup CD so please try other passwords. If you cannot remember the password, you need to reset the router and run the Setup CD to reconfigure it.

4. Click the Wireless Settings under Advanced tab.
5. Check the box under Enable Wireless Router Radio and Enable Wireless SSID Broadcast.
6. Click the Wireless Settings under Setup.
7. Change Channel (recommended are 1, 6 and 11).
8. Change the SSID to uniquely identify your network. You might have a similar SSID with your neighbor.

Note: Do not change the SSID if there are already other wireless computers that can connect to the network.

Other factors that you may consider when you are not able to view any available wireless network:

a. Switch for the wireless adapter is turned off
b. Distance between the wireless router and computer
c. Possible wireless interferences
