Question about Samsung HLN5065W 50" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
No pic or sound. cycles on /off 3 times then goes to standby mode.makes whining noise and lamp not coming on. replaced color wheel assembly, still no pic or sound and cycles on/off but whining has quit. lamp still off and tried 2 other lamps still same problems. tested power to ballast( brown and blue wires in 2 pin connector) 468vdc. tested voltage out of ballast to lamp, no voltage found. tested what looks to be overload above color wheel for continuity and it tested good. is 468vdc to high to ballast and fried it? small connector with small ribbon cable that goes from ballast to main control board-what is its purpose? control ballast to power lamp?
Hi,
The symmptom you explained is typical of an intermittent problem. These are caused by a loose wire or connection or a cold solder joint.
Try just whacking the cabinet with some considerable force using the fist.
If you can get some restoration of function then it is clearly one of these culprits: They are hard to find but cheap to fix when you find them.
In fact, often the best fix is to find a pressure point that restore functionality and apply a shim or insert somewhere that will keep it going reliably.
A good way to find out where the intermittent condition is coming from is to:
ONE: Remove the back cover so you can get inside the big board.
TWO: Place a mirror so that you can see what is going on with the screen while you are in the back probing around.
THREE: Acquire a long wooden dowell rod from the hardware store (it must be non-conductive) and use it for a probe.
FOUR: Gently probe around by applying pressure in different places until you can locate the sensitive area.
FIVE: Decide what the best thing for a fix might be.
OR, let me know the outcome and I can advise further once you have successfully completed the task at hand.
Goodluck..

Start by cleaning and checking the fans. When the back is off there is a safety switch that has to be taped in order to power the set and check the fan operation. If you need parts:

Beyond that, there was a guy selling DMD boards

Try to look for burnt components of the tv and look for a repairman to do the job for you. it maybe the lamp is the problem.

look i have considerable knowledge with electronics and wacking or hitting it with my fist is not what i consider a solution. i also dont get where you consider it to be an intermittent problem.
again as stated before i have tried 2 other lamps
i know about the switch on the metal support leg and it is taped to provide operation and all 3 fans are working.
