Question about Dell 3100cn Laser Printer

Toner install error

I repeatedly get 093-943 toner install errors telling me to re-install the black toner. This usually occurs at the end of a printing job, after calibrating. Occasional it happens in the middle of a job after printing graphics. Opening and closing the front panel always clears it, without even touching the toner. I am using only Dell toner cartridges, and this only happens with black. This has happened with the last two black toner cartridges I've used. Dell says the fault is the toner cartridge, and has replaced a couple at no charge, but it continues with the replacement cartridge. Thanks for any advice.

Solution does not address the problem.

  • oldgray Jan 29, 2008

You have just restated the problem.

  • oldgray Jan 29, 2008

Firmware is up to date, toner is installed correctly, lid latch is fine.

  • oldgray Jan 29, 2008

This is a Dell 3100cn, not an HP LaserJet 2400.

  • oldgray Jan 29, 2008

No USB cable, the printer is on a network.

  • oldgray Jan 29, 2008

The link you sent is about imaging drum problems. I don't have an imaging drum problem. I've replaced the imaging drum once, and got the expected capacity out of it.

  • oldgray Jan 30, 2008

These solutions were not helpful. I have read all the Dell troubleshooting documentation before posting the problem, none of the suggested sources had any relevant information. One solution regarded the wrong printer, another solution involved the imaging drum design which is not the problem here.

  • oldgray Jan 30, 2008

I don't think you read the comments, the printer is not connected to the computer, it is on a network. The problem is clearly a hardware issue rather than a driver issue. The problem occurs regardless of which computer prints. Furthermore, a different identical printer does not have the problem with any of the computers that use my printer.

Ok you should unplug the printer out to the computer and then reinstall the driver of your printer because setting on the printer will apprently detecting false message. it is better to uninstall the driver and restart and then reinstall it again.

Do not connect the printer when installing the software. wait for the computer prompted you to connect. thank you may this help.

Hi,

the first thing is check this site for eror codes:

http://www.office.xerox.com/userdoc/P750/resource/750-66.html

The message “Install Cartridge” from the HP LaserJet 2400 Series Service Manual does not indicate anything other than reinstall or replace the print cartridge, which you already did without success. We interpret this as a false message, leading us to question how the machine senses a cartridge, installed or not. The mechanism lies behind the left side cover. To remove the left cover, first remove two black panhead screws in the handhold at the base of the cover.

Open the cartridge door and rear cover. Release the plastic tab at the top, rear corner of the left side cover from inside the rear cover.

Turn the printer on its right side and release two plastic tabs on the bottom of the left side cover.

Pull the rear of the left side cover out and away from the machine. Next, shift the cover forward off the tabs along its front edge.

Goodluck,
Dont forget to rate me as fixya..

All i can say is that if they keep replacing the cartridge, then the problem lies with the receiver of the cartridge. as long as the replacement cartridge is there and the problem keeps on coming back, there will always be errors.

fixya!

I have an HP 3800 color laser printer. I installed a refurbished toner cartridge today and received a "49.2F05 Service Error" on its display after it completed self calibration. I am assuming it...

A critical firmware error has occurred.

1. Turn the printer off and then on.
2. Try printing a job from a different program. If the job prints, try printing a different file from the original program. If the message appears only with a certain program or print job, contact the software vendor for assistance.
3. If the message persists with different programs and print jobs, disconnect all of the printer cables that connect to the network or the computer.
4. Turn the printer off.
5. Remove all memory DIMMs or thirdparty DIMMs from the printer. (Do not remove the firmware DIMM in the lower slot J1).
6. Remove the printer EIO card.
7. Turn the printer on.
8. If the error does not persist, install each DIMM and EIO device one at a time. Turn the printer off and then on again after installing each device.
9. Replace DIMMs and EIO devices as necessary.
10. Reconnect all of the printer cables.
11. If the error persists, replace the firmware DIMM.
12. Replace the formatter and calibrate the printer.

Brand new lexmark printer, toner and cartridges installed, but get error 32 unsupported black cartridge error -tried updating drivers on lexmark site -tried taking cartridge out and reinstaling...

You could find the root cause by performing different steps. One of the easiest methods is that you need to make sure that the plastic protective tape which is usually used on the new black cartridge is off. Usually the user makes this mistake. This mistake might occurs due to absent-mindedness. The reason could also be some distractions which happen while loading the new black ink cartridge.

.XX PRINTER ERROR A firmware error occurred 1. Press CANCEL JOB to clear the print job from the printer memory. 2. Turn the printer off, and then turn the printer on. 3. Try printing a job from a different software application. If the job prints, go back to the first application and try printing a different file. (If the message only appears with a certain software application or print job, contact the software vendor for assistance.) 4. If the message persists with different software applications and print jobs, disconnect all cables to the printer that connect it to the network or printer. 5. Turn the printer off. 6. Remove all memory DIMMs or third-party DIMMs from the printer. (Do not remove the firmware DIMM in the lowest DIMM slot.) 7. Remove all EIO devices from the printer. 8. Turn the printer on. 9. If the error no longer exists, install each DIMM and EIO device one at a time, making sure to turn the printer off and back on as you install each device. 10. Replace a DIMM or EIO device if you determine that it causes the error. 11. Remember to reconnect all cables that connect the printer to the network or computer. 12. If the error persists, replace the firmware DIMM. 13. Replace the formatter. This error is usually caused by a bad formatter board.

Maybe the toner is low... According to the manual, a blinking red light:

• A minor error is occurring and
the printer is waiting for the error
to be cleared. When the problem
is cleared, the printer resumes
printing.
• The toner cartridge is low. Order
a new toner cartridge. You can
temporarily improve print quality
by redistributing the toner. See
page 8.3.
• The toner is totally exhausted.
Remove the old toner cartridge
and install a new one. See page
8.4.
• The toner cartridge reached the
end of its life.

Error 50

Is that an error code "Cartridge Error 50C" ? If so, see below....

Cartridge Error 50C: Your print cartridge has shorted.
1. Power off your All-in-One and unplug it.
2. Plug in your All-in-One again and turn it on.
3. Uninstall and then reinstall your cartridges.
4. If this does not resolve the issue, try the troubleshooting steps for the other cartridge errors below.

Error: Black Cartridge Missing - The black cartridge is not installed. (Install cartridge PN 82)
Error: Color Cartridge Missing - The color cartridge is not installed (Install cartridge PN 83)

Cartridge Error: Complete the following instructions:
1. Power off your All-in-One.
2. Use both hands to lift up the scanner unit until the scanner support holds it open.
3. Turn the All-in-One on. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-in-One is busy.
4. Remove the color print cartridge.
5. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
6. If the error message reappears, replace the black print cartridge with a new print cartridge.
If it does not repeat steps 1-3 and then go to step 7.
7. Reinstall the color cartridge and remove the black print cartridge.
8. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
9. If the error message occurs again, replace the color cartridge.
10. If an error message reappears, repeat steps 1-3 and reinstall both print cartridges.
11. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
12. If you receive the error message again, replace both cartridges.

Error 9-363

NOTE: The problem occurs because of the trickle development system in the machine, making extended lengths of black and white copies / prints does not allow the black developer housing to purge itself of excess waste Toner (Dry Ink) and Developer. There are two solutions for the problem:
  • Make 1,000 copies / prints of a black and white job, then make 150 copies / prints of full color. Continue making 1,000 copies / prints of the black and white job, then 150 full color, and so on, until the entire black and white job is complete.
  • Make extended jobs in groups of 100 by making 100 copies / prints of the black and white job, then allowing the machine to cycle down (return to 'Ready') and making the next 100 copies / prints. Continue in this pattern until the entire black and white job is complete.
NOTE: The above solutions are based on jobs using 8.5 x 11 inch paper, single sided, with no more than 28% coverage.

Black toner problem.Probably You have low toner sensor defect.
But try first to vacuum and clean black toner dispenser. You must vacuum whole path wich is used to transport black toner to developer unit. Then if printing B/W print only, you must print 10 full color sheets every 100 copies.
