My CCD-TRV308 camcorder won't record. When you try to record and then play it back you will have sound but no picture. It will play old videos I have recorded a while ago. Just not recent videos I have tryed to record, The screen just displays a snowy screen through the entire recording process. When played pack it's just a solid black screen.

Re: CCD-TRV308 Recording issuses
When was the last time you "cleaned" the heads? Use a good commercial
head cleaning tape. They have both "Wet" and "Dry" types. I prefer the
"wet" over the dry. I think it does a better job but they are hard to
find sometimes. you can also do it manually with "foam" swabs and "methanol". Alcohol works but the methanol leaves less residue behind.
If that doesn't solve the problem the next step would be to take it to a repair shop for cleaning and re-alignment.

try rewinding the tape and play it from the beginning.if still the same, video heads may be dirty and needs to be clean.i recommend you use a dry head cleaning tape.after which reinsert tape and play it again.if issue persists use a diff tape with previous recordings.if still no go,use new tape and try recording on it,play it back and check.if still the same your unit will require service.thanks:) hope this help.
Since it is playing the tape, the play head is ok. Now recording is done by recording heads so you may have a clogged heads or damaged recording heads. Try to clean the heads with head cleaning tape to see if it would help. 1. remove the tape and leave the door open. 2. using a canned air, blow out any dusts in the tape area. 3. run head cleaning tape for about 10 seconds and no more. 4. try the recording.. If this does not resolve, you may have a damaged or heavy clogged video heads. Take it to nearest video technician for a diagnostic. -James
I have the same problem of picture distortion when recording on my PV-GS200 camcorder. It's due to a faulty CCD block, which you can read about on various websites. I can play back pre-CCD failure tapes without a problem. Panasonic recalled quite a few GS200 camcorders with specific serial numbers in the US and Canada, and replaced the faulty 3-CCD chip free of charge. I just discovered this tonight and intend to ring Panasonic tomorrow, as the camcorder - bought new - lasted only two years before the CCD fault became apparent. Obviously, the camcorder was not of merchantable quality.
