After installing the netgear WG111T wireless adapter It flashes on the screen and then closes immediately. I have tried uninstalling, re-installing and getting latest drivers but the problem persists. I'm noticing a different sound (different then when I connect any other usb device) when I connect the adapter and it does not light up.

Download version 1.3

I was running into the same issue when I formatted my computer. It worked fine before that. I downloaded the version 1.3 though and it installed easily. There are step by step instructions how to install it as well. Hope this helps!

Make sure you're installing the netgear software without the adapter plugged in. Turn off the computer when installation is complete. Plug in the adapter then turn it back on. I didn't follow these steps at first and it wouldn't install.

If you still have problems after the reinstall (getting error 10 for the driver):

    1. Go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager > Network Devices

    2. Uninstall the driver for your wireless card

    3. If your card also has software installed, go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall that software

    4. Shutdown your computer

    5. Remove the wireless card

    6. Click Start > Run and type Regedit

    7. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Enum > PCI

    8. Right click on the PCI folder and choose Permissions

    9. Change the permissions somehow. I selected Everyone and gave that group Full Access.

    10. Reinstall the software and/or drivers for your card

    11. Shutdown your computer

    12. Put your card back in

    13. Reboot your computer

I have the same problem. After searching around on the netgear site, I found the following.

I'll be trying this tonight. Hopefully it will solve the problem.

Netgear wireless adapter wg111t will not work work

It's impossible that the wireless router cannot detect your wireless adapter wg111t.
You try to test another one if still have a problem connecting with your wireless router.
If that router can see another wireless network available then maybe your Netgear wireless adapter have a problem incomplete installation or the wireless device is defective.
I have encounter like this before so maybe it's the same with.
Hope my tip will help you a lot.
Good luck!

Cannot connect to wirless with adapter on new computer

Although this model appears to support Windows Vista according to the manual for it ( the 64 bit version is not mentioned and, therefore, probably not supported. I'd take the wireless adapter back and find one that supports Vista 64 for certain. Some do.

The solution I have is quite simple. I use Vista premium x64 so someone else can test it on Xp but it should work for both. In Vista the 1.3 version doesnt work so Facid's solution doesnt work for me.

[*]Get the 2.1 setup for Vista and install it.
[*]Go to your NETGEAR folder wherever you installed it to (Program Files x86 for me) and copy the DRIVERS folder to your desktop.
[*]Uninstall the smartwizard and remove everything in the NETGEAR folder.
[*]Plug in your WG111T.
[*]Go to Device Manager and find your WG111T in the list, Right Click and Update Driver.
[*]Browse to the DRIVERS folder on your desktop when it asks where to look for the driver and the WG111T will install. It should popup with a little message when it is completed but you will not be online yet.

I dont know what you would do in Xp x64 system but I believe it has its own wireless manager like Vista and should be quite simalar.
[*]IN VISTA go to the Connect To button in your Start menu, It should be under Computer and Network, it should show your router along with a 5 bar network strength graphic.
[*]For me all I had to do was double click on the network and put in my WEP hex key and it conected.
