but the psp screen does occasionally turn on, i tried turning it on about 50 or 70 times and the screen worked 3 of those times but soon as it was turned off then turned on it did not work, all wires in psp seem ok none are out or broken, could this be a firmware problem?

    thanks

I have a similar problem. When I turn the psp on, the screen is black. There is a noise that sounds like the disc in the game is turning. If I press home, it ask if I want to quit the game. If I say yes then it goes to the screen to choose UMD and it shows what game is in the system. But when I try to start the game again it shows the psp screen, then the screen goes black and there is no sound.

Is there a simple fix for this?

recently worked on my psp and fixed the wi-fi switch only to put it back together turn it on and hear it start up with the screen not working.

tried using my newer psps screen but it doesnt work neither.

HOWEVER.. if iput the new psp's motherboard into my old psp the screens work perfectly( but the new mother board has no custom firmware and the charge peice is broke off) that was last night.

i hope that i can get the screen to work with my old motherboard or else i will have to get ahold of an older psp again( preferebly one that has a problem with buttons or cracked screen so i can get it easily0

The problem can be caused by the screen connection (check if the latch is fastended securely) or the screen itself (defective or loose components of the circuitry on the ribbon cable). If the latter is the case you have to replace the screen. Part is best purchase on ebay and there are online guides that show you how to perform a psp repair and how to take the front plate off.

Hi Trollsheva,

Your LCD screen has a lost connection internally. I have seen this a few time over the last few months. You will need to get a new LCD screen for your PSP installed. I recommend even if your technically endowed, that you get an experienced person to do this. The PSP is very tricky and delicate. Click on "repair Directory" at the bottom of this screen, then Select "Video Game Consoles" Pick a Repair shop that has replaced PSP LCD screens before.

Hi , I have a PSP LCD scren here that will work if the ribbon cable is postioned just right but will not work when the LCD screen is in the correct postion. I replaced the LCD with a new one and it works fine. This is why I say its not a firmware issue.

    Hi Takuya,

This is most likely a seperation of the screen layers, that has been caused by dropping or a sharp blow to the PSP. Three methods for correcting this are possible.

#1 is to check the connections and reseat the ribbon cables in thier respective sockets.

#2 The Firmware may be corrupted and not sending the correct video code to the LCD screen. The firmware can be reflashed by a qualified repair shop.

#3 If all that doesn't work then replace the LCD screen. This is complicated and you could damage your motherboard. Best to have a experience repair shop do this.

My repair shop specializes in PSP repairs. The cost of this repair ranges from $30 USD to $100USD depending on where you live and which PSP model you have. This Quote includes return shipping to anywhere in the world. www.Playstationclinic.com

SOURCE: PSP screen problem

It is most likely a screen problem, perhaps the screen is disconnected. I would suggest having it serviced, or perhaps you can try to disassemble it and check the cable is fully plugged in.

PSP internal screen cracked!!!

I recommend seeing an expert. I heard that to replace the internal screen only costs about 20 dollars if you do it yourself. You should look into buying a new screen(internal) but about the leaking LED's you should really try to see an expert or get some support from Sony.

No display problem

You might have the broken LCD.. If you not sure, try to boot under recovery menu - (if you have custom firmware installed). if the problem come from corrupted firmware you should see the menu of recovery.. then goto menu "Advance" > "Format flash1 and reset setting". otherwise you may consider sending it back to Sony for repair. You can call SONY support at 1-800-345-7669.
