Sony Cyber-Shot DSC W30 - says "ACCESS"

The camera lense does not close when I shut the power. When I turn on the pwoer it says ACCESS and says "turn the power off and on again." It will display previous pictures taken, but will not take new ones. HELP - I need to take pictures and downlad them for a surprise party ASAP. Thank you!

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I have the same problem. The camera says "Turn the power off and on again" when it's in picture-taking mode, and the lenses are stuck in the out position. The camera makes three attempts to move the lenses (they try to twist, moving ever so slightly) and then it stops, yielding the error message. (It does play back pictures normally and I can copy photos to my computer.) I tried removing the battery, removing the digital film, pressing and holding the power button, searching for a reset button, turning the dial, pressing all the buttons, opening all the doors. Nothing worked.

I fixed the problem that I reported above by physically pulling the lens out with my fingers as the camera tried to do it itself. It took a few tries, but eventually it came out. Power on the camera and pull the lens housing outward. I think I will have to repeat this occasionally, but I haven't used the camera much recently. The lesson in this is do not lend this camera to an 8-year-old.

I had the same problem. This happened because the lenses is jammed and these always happened when u droop the camera or press power button while the camera in it’s carry case or even on ur pocket which led to an obstruction of the lenses to extend probably. In my case my son put his hand on the lens and stopped it from extending.
The solution is try to tape the camera gently with the palm of ur hand, may be some dust is the cause, If it did not work take it to the service, I highly recommend that you should go to the agent, and u should know that it’s only repair of the lenses u don’t need to replace the lenses. I went to some one to fix the problem and he said that “it’s need a new lenses but when I emailed the agent of sony they called me immediately next day and asked me to go to there service and they make it for me for free because it was in the warranty period.
I hope this help, and I’m sorry for my bad English.
Please have a nice time.

Make sure the battery is strong and not failing you and that the extending lens cover parts are clean. You may have gotten something in there.
