Question about Acer TravelMate C100 Notebook

2 Answers

Wired LAN I have been given an Acer Travelmate C100. I would like to connect to the internet at home using my wired LAN. I cannot get the tablet to recognize a wired LAN connection. I downloaded the LAN driver file from ACER but installing it is of no help. All that the tablet recognizes is the wireless connection. Any ideas? ACER says the tablet is too old for other support. I'm running Windows XP.

Thanks for the idea of a usb ethernet adapter. I am trying to get the built-in card to trigger. I have checked device manager and a LAN does not appear as an option. How do I check the bios? Thanks.

I figured out how to get to the bios and the card was not enabled. I enabled it and it works fine. Thank you very much

I had the same problem and it checked everything. The solultion is very simple and costs nothing. Essentially, The Travelmate C100 cannot have the wireless Lan and the Lan (cable version) running at the same time and you have to switch between them. To do this:

1. On start up at Acer screen press F2.
2. Dialog box opens - scroll down to Lans.
3. You will see one is enabled, the other disabled. Enable the one you want (using the arrows on key pad) - which will automatically disable the other.
4. Press Esc and start up as usual.

Done! No cost, but a bit of trouble...

A usb ethernet adapter does not cost much and no troubleshooting needed.
I assume your trying to get your built-in card to trigger have you checked the bios to be certain it is enabled.
and go to control panel check the system device manager to see what it says about the ethernet.
does it show up under my network places and if it does is it bridged. Get properties on it.

Wireless connection

First I will confirm what you've posted.

Before going to your friends house you used to connect the laptop up via the network cable. Since youve tried your laptop on your friends wireless it no longer allows you to surf the web via the wireless nore the wired connection?

To me it sounds like a possible mis-configuration between your laptop and your linksys router. Depending on what operating system you are using you need to get into your network connection settings (usually in control panel) and either set the TCP/IP to automatically obtain ip address or set it correctly.

If you have never had to configure this in the past ensure that obtain automatically is set.
