If you go into "my computer", do you see the optical "drives"? If so, click on the respective drive icon and click "properties". Check to see if the drive is enabled. Hope this helps...accordianman

Need help burning cd with external burner

There shouldn't be a problem. Plug the drive into a USB port on the computer, connect the burner's power cable, and wait for Windows to detect the drive. Then all you need to do is tell your burning software to use that drive.

If you're using the CD burning function built into Windows, that may be giving you trouble. The burning capabilities are pretty limited. You should be using a dedicated burner program. One may have come along with your drive when you bought it. A good free burning program is CDBurnerXP. That's the one I use and it has all the features for making data and audio discs. If your drive is a DVD burner and you want to try authoring DVDs that can play on your TV, try DVDStyler. It's also a free program.

As for the burning process itself, you'll need to follow the steps required by your burning software. The help information and online documentation will help you there.

How do I burn dvd never used before

Okay assuming you have this installed you going to need a program called NERO installed on your machine. Once that is installed when ran you will be given some options on what type of cd/dvd you want to burn weather it is data or music or maybe even a dvd. From there on out its drag and drop you select the folder to the files you want to burn and you click burn. Now depending on the media weather it be musci, movies,or what have you you want to make sure you got the right type of disc. they sale blnaks at officedepo, officemax, bestbuy or even online

That is the basic lowdown on how you burn a disc. Other experts might have a diffrent point of view.

Please be considerate and leave your rating and feedback. Thanks

Windows 7 Evaluation HDD Issue

First yes 7 is basically a toned down version of vista.

Its very hard to determine many problems you may be experiencing with 7 due to the fact that its not even offical yet, but only a beta. This means most drivers with have bugs, like your hard drive spinning up and down at random certain point.

I would advise to test the drive in the same conditions with either XP or vista.

As of the life of the drive, unless its making constant noises that scare the hell out of you alot or most of the time, than its just fine.

Hope this helped.

Can''t play dvd-r on my computer

Is it the DVD player/cd burner combo on your computer or simple CD player?
Compatibility: Check if your DVD player on your computer is compatible of playing -r's CD or DVD?.
Check the make and model of your computer and go to the manufacturer's website and find out from there.
You might have to talk to the manufacturer's support.
and if you are sure that the DVD player and its compatible of playing -r's DVDs then first of all check by playing any +r's DVD and see how they respond. If you are certain that it plays - and +rs etc then recheck your recording of DVD's.
Also try installing a good program software like Nero on the computer which will give you options of controlling, burning and playing DVD/CD on your computer.
Best of luck!

3.5" usb2.o hard drive enclosure

You do not need to install a driver for Windows XP and Vista, it is already built in. The CD may however contain optional software for initializing the hard drive the first time, and for making backups later.

Do you know if the hard disk is good? Does it spin up when you turn it on? You can hear and feel it spin up.

If this is not a SATA drive, make sure that the jumper is set correctly. Most enclosures require the drive to be jumpered for Master, sometimes for Single or CS. Check the top of the hard disk for a guide to how to set or remove the jumper.

You might try connecting it to different USB ports, some are faulty.
