sounds like the sensors are out of focus and your red sensor isnt turning on. look in the back of the tv for a master reset button or in your menu screen some sort of "Flash focus" or "convergence". They will realign the 3 sensors.
This is a convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$300
Chances are that the convergence amps are bad. If those are mounted on a separate board, replacing the board would be the easiest thing to do. Running the magic focus or touching up the convergence in the customer menu may be required.
loosen the the thingy behind the lens adjustment, you can turn it clockwise or anti-clockwise which it will go down or up, thats it..problem solve for your 5ft focus problem..in the double vision, you gotta line up the eyepiece center to your both eyes..problem solve again
