This could be a number of problems, one or many. Some things to consider
1) You may be infected with a virus or a bunch of spyware. Do you have Antivirus and antispyware utilities? I recommend AVG and Spybot.
2) You may have a bad hard drive. Try booting into safe mode and run a dskchk and/or defrag.
3) You may have some faulty memory. Boot into safe mode and right click on "My Computer" click properties and make sure you have the right amount of RAM listed in this area. If not you may need to replace your memory.
When it first trys to start up press f11 and click analyse and recovery or something like that. this should search your laptop and find any errors which wont let it boot up. and then delete or solve them. 9 times out of 10 its a virus.
