I need to find a code to program a Funai or Insignia DVD player purchased from Best Buy. I believe it would be a 3 digit code as that is what I use for my TV and VCR.

Try using the scan or learning features on your universal remote control. Otherwise, a replacement factory remote can be ordered from BestBuy.PartSearch.com.
There is a good chance that no code exists and the model number of the Insignia remote is necessary to answering your question.
Since both devices are made by Funai, you might try any Funai codes listed as well as these which come from the same manufacturer:
Symphonic, Sylvania, Emerson, Aventura, Durabrand,
ESA, Magnavox, Philipsand Misakai
All of these are also good names to avoid since their frequency of repair isn't that good.
see the manufactures website for your remote. Once you locate the codes its a little tricky but I got it figured out.
This player was made by Funai as has several machines by several companies that are nearly identical. Use the Funai codes until you come across one that works. They have very few codes so it should be really easy. I got my comcast 3 device, universal to work in under 5 min.
There is a post I made at insigniaproducts.com in the forums about some codes that work with this player.
Not likely will your current remote ever have the capability for your newer model.
The code sets are designed into the Dish remote as they were available then and don't 'learn' newer sets.
You might try to find one of the other Funai brand code sets under these names:
Funai, Symphonic, Emerson, Aventura, Durabrand,
ESA, Magnavox, INSIGNIA, and Misakai
Even if you do find one that gives you some functions, I doubt you will find one set for both TV and DVD player so you will have to try individual code sets; one for TV, another for DVD.
First, there is no such thing as a 'universal' remote. There are numerous makers of 'multi-brand' remotes and they just lie a lot; they need to be sued.
Your Emerson is made by a company named Funai who also makes 'stuff' under the names below:
Funai, Symphonic, Sylvania, Aventura,
Durabrand, ESA, Magnavox, INSIGNIA, and Misakai
You might try any (or all) of those to see if your Hitachi remote has codes for those brands.
First, you need to realize that there is no such thing as a 'universal remote.'
At best, they are multi-brand remotes.
You might get lucky if you try any codes you have (or can retrieve from the Tandy website) if you check these brands too:
Funai, Symphonic, Sylvania, Emerson, Aventura, Durabrand, ESA, Magnavox, INSIGNIA, and Misakai
They are all made by Funai, one of the worst manufacturers in Asia.
