Question about Linksys (WMP54GS) 802.11g/b Wireless Adapter

1 Answer

One card interfering with other connections

I have an adapter (linksys) which always worked properly in my desktop PC along with a laptop all connected to a wireless router (also linksys). Now whenever I startup the desktop not only does it not connect at all it also makes my laptop connection become erratic. When the desktop is shut down the laptop connectin works perfectly. If the laptop is off the desktop still doesn't connect. The desktop randomly sees the wireless connection but is never able to connect to it. The strange thing is that this setup always worked perfectly before and started presenting this problem all of a sudden.

Wireless adapter is not working. I have a broadband router (befw11s4) in one room and the wireless adapter in the other room. The wireless adapter/computer were working together, but then stopped working.

Have you checked to make sure the laptop wireless NIC isn't acting as an AP by mistake? That could explain both desktop and laptop connectivity issues. Just a thought.

Try disabling the onboard wireless adapter- the two may be conflicting w/ each other. The other thing I can think of is try a system that does NOT have wireless onboard (a desktop for instance)- that way you could see if the issue is indeed the internal connection's broadcast interfering with the usb adapter

Sharing internet from dlink 510g to linksys wap54g AP

yes, the manufacturer doesn't really matter as long as they are 802.11g (usually backwards compatible with a and b) so as long as the router and the adapters are installed properly NO problem

Linksys

I used to have a Linksys WPC54G. Thia is normal for the LinkSys WPC54G. How ever in your configurations make sure everything is enabled. But as this being a wireless adapter you should make sure you use AdHoc Mode configurations and set it to channel 6 works the best and set it to G-Only mode not mixed..See the network light blinks and it should be flashing fast for it to conect. I had this same problem. I decided to reconfigure my Linksys to AdHoc and it seemed to work better form me. For as the secure links I set them at non secure and I manually set up my IP Address which is 192.168.1.01-255 Sub net mask is 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway is 192.168.1.1 DCHP Server is also 192.168.1.1 I do hope this helps if it doesn't I say try moving your laptop around until your Wireless Network enables. there is always Tech Support on Linksys.com also. Good luck and I hope this works for you.
