Question about Graphics Cards

Blinking screen The screen on my computer suddenly starts blinking off and on in rapid succession. I will go for months and nothing will happen, then it all of a sudden starts. It will do it for a while, then stop and all is fine, then start again. If I do a clean up on the computer, it stops for a while. Sometimes when it is doing it, if I change to a different program or screen, it will stop. It is very intermitant. Any ideas ?????

Make sure the correct driver installed.
Check what is installed at this moment, do the following:

1. Go to Start -> Run and type: devmgmt.msc
2. Hit Enter/Return key.

A screen will pop up, are there items with a yellow questionmark icon? Is one of those your VGA adaptor? Then you need to install the correct drivers.

If you need help finding the drivers, tell me what brand/type/model your VGA card is.

Greetings,

DarkNeogen.

I think the Screen has a problem not the computer... have the screen checked by a professional technician. Inside... he/she may find cold-solders (these are components that loses connection to the board) that causes the blinking or the rapid succession...
That's why patting the side of the screen sometimes gets better...

Hi dawn120
You need a powerfull machine to obtain full satisfying results .
The output is best directed to a hard drive folder and then burned to DVD later. Import the result into a video editor and trim and edit as needed.
Don't mess with the computer while copying. Turned off screen savers and updates to prevent disruption.

Go to safe mode and uninstall the Graphics drivers and then restart and install the Nvidia Drivers again. Sometimes drivers get corrputed, so this things happens. if ur still getting this, then connect ur monitor directly on motherboards graphics connector and c whether u get this problem again, if ur not getting it means ur graphics card is not good.

Maybe it's a temperature related problem.Youll have to clean the Video Card and CPU heat sink (better with compressed air) :

>Disconect the computer.
>open it up
>carefully take the video card out, watch for screws and plastic lock at the AGP/PCI/PCI express slot.
>spray compressed air to clean the heatsink.
>attemp to take the cpu heatsink out too. if not possible just spray the air to the heatsink inside the computer.
>spray every slot and port with the compressed air
>reinstall vid card and CPU heatsink.
>accomodate al the cables to increase airflow
>check everything properly conected
>close everythinkg

Also I would replace the flat IDE cables with round cables to increase airflow.

If that is not helping, maybe its better to monitor your CPU, RAM and vid card temp.

sounds like your computer is going into standby or sleep mode. Does hitting enter on the keyboard turn it back on? Does pressing the power button turn it back on? One of those should do it.

You can change it so it does not do this, In windows xp you can goto power options in the control panel, and change system standby to 'never'. Not sure in vista probably about the same thing.

If this doesn't help then maybe you have a hardware problem.

Try downloading the driver from the nvidia instead of dell. I had a dell for 3 years and found that the drivers they provided only worked 30% of the time.

Compaq Computer

when the pc is powering up, keep pressing F8 to get into safe mode, and when in the menu select last known good configuration and press enter for a reboot. This should get you running, if not restart again pressing F8, but this time select start windows in safe mode and whilst in safe mode select the administrator account and try doing a system restore to a date before you tried loading the programe, and let the pc re boot, and hopefully you are now ok.

Have you run a virus or spyware scan of your machine? Is your virus and spyware up to date? While running @ 640x480 does it exibit any other errors? lsass.exe is a system process of the Microsoft Windows security mechanisms. It specifically deals with local security and login policies. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated. Note: lsass.exe is a process which is registered as a trojan. This Trojan allows attackers to access your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system. Note: lsass.exe is registered as a downloader. This process usually comes bundled with a virus or spyware and its main role is to do nothing other than download other viruses/spyware to your computer. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system. DON'T REMOVE THE LSASS.EXE let a virus/ spyware program determine if its good or bad. http://www.filehippo.com you can download virus cleaner (avast is my favorite virus protection) windows defender, spybot S&D, AdAware, HighJack This to clean the machine. Then download and install the latest drivers from here: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp Driver Installation Hints * "Download Accelerator" utilities should be disabled when downloading any drivers. * Do not run virus protection software in the background while installing the drivers. This prevents the driver from configuring itself properly. * Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove. Get back to me if none of that works. Good Luck, Tim
