I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-W5 5.1MP - purchased about four and half years ago (ancient in technology years I know) - but it's a good camera and has served me well. For about six months I've had issues with it staying powered on. Have used rechargeable batteries (the ones it came with) and same size Energizer rechargables forever (it takes double A batteries) - I thought it was the batteries I'd been using but bought a fresh pack of regular consumable double A's - Duracell and same problem - it worked for about ten minutes and now won't stay powered on - enough juice to wake up, flashes low battery and shuts off. I've cleaned and reset what I can, what is happening?

Have you tried this technique? Rub the contacts in the battery compartment with a pencil eraser and then with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Are you sure it is your charger and not the battery? (Batteries)
You could buy a new Sony charger, but there are lots of universal camera battery chargers, that won't cost as much and you can use it for every battery from every camera. Pick the right one and you have a charger for years to come, whatever your new camera will be and how big or small the batteries are.
Something in the lens unit is broken. The unit can't be fixed but needs to be replaced with a new or unit unit. A new lens unit would cost about half the price of the camera though...
I successfully replaced broken Sony Cybershot LCD screen myself. I purchased replacement screen on e-bay for less than $30, including shipping. Then I found a recording on how to replaced this screen on Youtube. In addition I recorded replacement with a camcorder to make sure that I put all parts back where they suppose to be. It was more than a year ago, and my camera works beautifully still.
