Question about Sony Vaio PCG-FXA Series AMD (A8058677A) Motherboard

1 Answer

Pcg-fxa49 won't boot

This is a 6 year old machine. no problems until recently. due to weak battery, generally stayed plugged in. one day would not boot. no power indicator on laptop, or would start up to SONY splash screen and then shut down. took memory out, tried different battery/power supply -- nothing much changed. it did get past the SONY splash screen and display the resume setup screen, but shuts down when pressing either function key.

castatroy - No, no recent hardware changes.

ikenfixit - That does have possibilities. I did notice the plug seemed a bit "loose" in the back of the pc.

I have access to another machine with a busted screen - may get that one and swap drives. i've already replaced the Sony but need to get info from the hard drive.

Could be it needs the DC jack resoldered or replaced. (Sounds like its trying to start off dead battery).. These arent to bad to do compared to others weve repaired. Good luck!

XPS 410 won't boot but CPU fan spins

A loud CPU fan will also equate with overheating and imminent failure. Can you reliably access your system BIOS? Can you run a memory test there? If so your CPU is functional (and your memory which is also subject to overheating and BSOD under XP. If those are good your prime suspect is your HDD. If you can afford it, now would be a good time to replace your system.

Sony pcg-81114L power supply not detected

If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

My Sony Vaio PCG-61611L won't power on, the battery is fully charged and AC adapter is working (green light goes on). Please help!

OverheatingWhen the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

had a similar problem, and I resoleved it via a bios flash..this allowed the hardware to be fully recognized and to perform the specified role. For some reason, the bios software for this version seems to corrupt after several years. I have had my machine for the last four years..until it recently started giving the issues,it had no problems.

Nearly all computers made in recent years use a CR2032 battery. You can pop the old one out to make sure, but if it's about the size of a quarter this is probably it.
