RHEEM RGLE-10EQAGS Gas Furnace - Intermitent. Fans come on, Hot surface Ignitor comes on, then sometimes Gas Valve opens and all is fine, Other times, gas valve doesn't open and Hot surface Ignitor goes out. When this happens, I have to turn power switch off then back on. I've had a suggestion that there is a heat sensor which senses when Ignitor lights and is hot enough and purhaps this sensor is bad. I don't see a heat sensor anywhere around the Ignitor. There is one on other side of furnace to sense when burner ignites but not one for the hot surface ignitor.

The sequence is Igniter comes on, valve comes on, flame sensor senses flame. If no flame is sensed after 3 tries, a lockout occurs. If you have a volt meter, check for 24-27 Volts AC coming to the gas valve, if your getting voltage to the valve but no gas, your gas valve is defective. It could be a intermittent problem, no matter, still a bad valve. if no voltage to valve, defective circuit board.

Looking for a hot surface ignitor part number. York propane furnace model P2UDD20P13301C. I do not have the old ignitor.

Go to a local heating and air conditioning wholesale parts supply and sales point and they should be able to get you an OEM or an aftermarket part OR go to a rheem rudd distributor or supply and service point

Does this valve have a standing pilot? if not, if my hot surface ignitor lights up and the furnace fails to light would you consider it to be a faulty gas valve? I am getting a constant 24 volts fro

If your getting 24 Volts to the gas Valve and the gas Valve is not opening replace your gas valve If your not getting a full 24 volts check your Transformer and the ground to the gas valve. If the gas valve still does not open change the Gas valve.

When the heat cycle calls for gas there is no ignition is my gas valve bad?

I don't know what kind of furnace you have. But most furnaces have some sort of pilot first than after it is proven than the main gas will come on. Either a standing Pilot with a thermocouple. A hot surface ignition or Spark ignition with a flame sensor. Or a direct fire system where hot surface or spark ignitor start first than all the burners send a 1 sec blast of gas which is proven by the flame sensor if it proves the gas valve stays on.....
In what you have said you have 24 volts to the gas valve and it has not lite. then does the gas valve have a pilot tube???Does it have a thermocouple?? Do you smell gas?? If you don't smell gas then the main part of the valve has not opened. The Pilot valve has to open first and prove before the main gas will come on. I hope this helps. If you still need help repost with the name and model # of the furnace.

Furnace has automatic ignition pilot light comes on for about 10 seconds then goes back out and furnace blows cold air

Check and make sure you have gas on to the unit and to the gas valve in the furnace.. Check for 24 volts at the gas valve at the furance. Check and make sure the knob at the gas valve is in the "on" position. If you have voltage at the valve than the valve has failed. If you have no voltaged at the valve than the circuit board has failed. One last thing you can check if you do have voltage at the valve. When the hot surface ignitor is glowing orange tap on the gas valve with the handle of a screw diver. Sometimes the valve sticks. Of coarse if this works it will probably stick again. Replace the valve in this case.

"RUUD Achiever 90 Plus" Propane

Hello bikejocky,

MOST LIKELY you have a "hot surface" element
with a tiny crack in it...
About 25 years ago... I put one of my poor abused
fingers on the element to see if it was at all warm...
In so doing I touched the spot where the crack was...
and it did INDEED have a full 120 volt, 60 cycle AC
current waiting for my FINGER to complete the
circuit... (not a recommended procedure)

My 25 year old RHEEM... finally kicked it.
I keep spares... and bought 2 more when I used
the last

Since these parts are pretty cheap... I get spares
62 22868 93 Rheem 62 22868 93 Hot Surface Ignitor

Take a look... There are two basic configurations

The WISEST APPROACH is to use a "meter"
to verify the "line current" is present (not finger)
and check the "SURFACE" for continuity.

Once you copy the number DIRECTLY from
YOUR OWN part... look it up... internet... eBay
and AMAZON (like Robert Shaw #41-408).
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROBERTSHAW-41-408-Hot-surface-ignitor-NORTON-271N-/121727955205?hash=item1c578d3105:m:mJR3I8e9mTI60A-dtmvdVrw

>> It is the plug & mount that is important...!!

(consider that spare you always wanted
(If you get it... you will probably never need it)).

~~

The cycling limit & fan
(never touched a RUUD... (so... I presume)) is to clear accumulated GAS FUMES to avoid any explosive
situations.

I do know RHEEM... (ERGO... I have every confidence)
((RHEEM & RUUD, in my opinion, are design twins)).

Furnace will not come on but thermostat is showing information

turn off power to furnace and open the front panel and see if you can see burners and gas valve and Hot surface ignitor.
If you can. turn furnace on and watch to see if the ignitor glows.
Let me know what you find. If it doesn't glow you probably have a faulty Hot surface ignitor.
If I had make and model number I should be able to find the part
Not finding what you are looking for?
