You will have to open a browser, and into the address bar, type http:192 168.2.1, use admin as Login & password is blank, After login, you go to security settings and "Generate a WEP KEY" write this down. Better yet copy/paste it to a notepad document & save. Now you use this key on the "Client" computer when you try to access that network. You will be asked for your WEP Key, simply copy/paste it, from you notepad document, into the box, or type it in if you wish.

We installed our router some time ago believing it was secure

right, goto admin on the belkin by entering 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 Select Security and select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 enter your password. Reboot the router. Find your Network (belkin54g ??) Now goto the laptop or DEsktop and change the connection to reflect the security mode used and the password. if you cannot connect I suggust you add a Ethernet cable from the PC to the router and enter the admin address shown above and recheck your auth type and password. Password for belkin54g

There is no default WEP / WPA key for belkin54g routers. The default password to access the setup is blank. Try going to 192.168.2.1 in internet explorer (where you would usually type the address of the site in), and see if you can find out the WEP / WPA Key.

I'm trying to connect to my belkin54g router with another laptop - how do I find my wep or wpa?

Hi,
First make sure you can see the router in your Available Networks. You can do this by double clicking the Networks icon at the bottom right hand corner of your screen.
If you can see the router on the list, double click on it, and if it is unsecured, then you should be able to connect to the internet. If it is 'secured', then you have to enter the Username and Password to gain access.
Or you could type 192.169.0.1 into your internet browser URL box on the laptop. This will ask for the same Username and Password. The default Username is usually 'admin' and the default password is usually 'password' (or 1234 on older models). If successful, you should be able to see the routers settings, and diagnose if your router is properly connected to the internet. If it seems to be connected, and the Username and Password are being entered properly into the laptop when you try to connect to a network, then it can only mean that the laptop's wireless card/adapter is not configured properly on the laptop.
I hope that helps :)

I have a belkin 54g. have had numrous problems with setting up the wireless function on the 1st and 2nd attempt. 3rd time lucky i manged to get wireless. Although now my wireless name is "belkin54g" and...

Open a browser page and log into the setup page @ 192.168.2.1,
click on SSID on the left column under Wireless,. It will probably ask you for a password if you had put one in. If not leave it clear and click "submit".
Then you can change the SSID (router name" to what you want it to be.
Then click on security, choose the type on encryption you want ie: WEP. WPA. Then put in the key you want to use to secure the router. Make sure you click apply after each change.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
