My laptop detects my network connection, I click connect then enter my password and when it is looking for the IP address the belkin router's wireless light starts blinking yellow. I never get connected. My iPod touch works fine with the wireless connection.

Try assigning your laptop a static IP. To do this in Windows:

  • Open Windows Start menu.
  • Open Control Panel.
  • Classic view: Open Network Connections
Category view: Select Network and Internet Connections, and thenNetwork Connections.
  • Double-click on your active LAN or Internet connection.
  • Click Properties
  • In the General tab, highlight the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item, and clickProperties.
  • In the General tab, click Use the following IP address, and enter: - IP address. The static IP address you want to assign to this computer (try 192.168.1.110 to start). - Subnet mask. Subnet mask used by your router (try 255.255.255.0 to start). - Default gateway. IP address of your router's default gateway (try 192.168.1.1 to start).
  • In Use the following DNS server addresses, enter all the IP addressses for the DNS servers your router uses (or you can try your router's address, probably 192.168.1.1).

Default IPs for Belkin Routers is http://192.168.2.1/ If you can't access this, you might have to reset your router to factory default. You can do this by holding the reset button on the back of your device. Consult your manual for more detailed information.
Please post your router model for more detailed responses in the future.
Thanks and good luck.

How do i protect my unsecured home wi-fi network? I have a Belkin router IP address 192.168.2.1.

To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
    1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
    2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
    3. Enter the router setup, login and password
    4. Change the admin password
    5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
    6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
    7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
    8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
    9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
    10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

    Belkin

Yes there is just follow the following:
To setup your Belkin Router please follow the steps below.

Once the router is connected, check if your PC is communicating with the router. On the desktop click on Start and then on Run. In the open box, type cmd.

    belkin001.jpg

    belkin002.jpg

It will bring up the command prompt window.

    belkin003.jpg

Type the command ipconfig in that window and press the Enter / Return key on the keyboard. It will bring up results similar to the image below

    belkin004.jpg
Note the values of IP Address and Default Gateway in the ipconfig command results. If the IP address is in the range of 169. 254.x.x or 0.0.0.0, then the PC is not communicating with the router. In this case contact your router vendor for support.
If the IP Address is in the range of 192.168.x.x then the network setup should be ok. Note the values of IP Address and Default Gateway. Close the command prompt window. The default gate way for belkin is 192.168.2.1

    belkin005.jpg

Open Internet Explorer window and in the address bar type in the address that you found for Default Gateway. In case of Belkin router it should be 192.168.2.1. Then click on the Go button.

    belkin010.jpg

It should bring up a screen similar to the image below. Refer the product manual for the default Router password. In case of most Belkin routers, it is blank. So, just click on the Login button.

    belkin006.jpg

This should bring up the Belkin Router Setup Utility. Click on the Wizard link on the top bar of this page. In the Connection type options, select PPPoA. Then click on Next button to continue. Notice that on the top right side of the page, it says "No Connection". Once the setup wizard is complete, it should change to "Connected"

    belkin007.jpg

In the next window that appears, enter the broadband email address and password in the respective boxes. Then confirm the password in the Retype Password box. In case of VPI/VCI:, type 0 and 38 in the left and the right boxes respectively. Then click on Next to continue.

    belkin008.jpg

Click on the Apply button to save the settings.

    belkin009.jpg

It may take up to 5 minutes to save and update the settings. Once completed, you will see, "Connected" on the top right side of the window. Once you see that close this window and open your browser window to go to any website.

    Program for belkin router

    you don't require the disk...
co0nnect your belkin router with ethernet cable into the comp...
open internet explorer type an address as 192.168.2.1 it will take you to router config page..it will ask for a password leave it blank
    click submit
click the Wizard link on the top menu bar.
For a UK ADSL connection, you will need to select PPPoA (Routing mode, for multiple PCs) even if you are only going to connect a single computer, then click the next button.
The next step is to enter your username and password that your service provider has provided you with. To try and ensure the password is entered correctly it must be entered twice. The VPI/VCI values of 0/38 are the correct ones for a BT Wholesale ADSL line. If you are using another telephone provider check the settings required. Click next again to continue to the next phase in the wizard.
This screen tells you what your Internet IP address is (the WAN IP), and you will note that the menu bar at the top of the page now shows the Internet Status as connected. For the review, there is really one bit of configuration left to do. During the course of reviewing hardware we tend to swap kit in and out several times, we generally prefer to run the routers on the same IP address (192.168.0.1). This is easily accomplished by clicking the LAN Settings link on the left hand menu of the Belkins web setup and altering the routers IP address.
    cap-19959.jpg
The router is clever enough to alter the DHCP server IP ranges to match the new LAN IP address of the router. Once the changes were applied it took around a minute for the router to restart, during which time the wireless signal dropped, but once this reconnected the PC was assigned an IP address in the new range of 192.168.0.x.
