Question about Sony VRD-VC10 DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner

1 Answer

No Disc inserted or drive not ready, please try again

I am not able to burn a CD with my VRD-VC10 drive whereas I can do on DVDs. when I insert CD, I get "No Disc inserted or drive not ready, please try again" message on Disc Info of Nero6, supplied along with the drive I have the same problem. It keeps saying "no disc". I have tried varied Sony disks to no avail. Sony is no help. I even sent it back to them one time but they said it worked fine. I did have a random success on 1X-16X but coulden't get it to repeat. I've had it for about 2 years and find it useless.

I went on the Sony website as suggested and they had a three part series for Video Capturing. The second one said to go to Nero site and download Update Packages 1 and 2. I went there and could not find any references to their NeroVision Express Packages 1 & 2. I'm stumped. Spent hours on this today. I'm USB'd to the computer and no miracles. Still shows "No Disk". I have a Sony DVD+R in it with 4.7GB, 1X-16X speed.

So, bottom line I can't find the firmware that was suggested might fix my problem. More ideas would be appreciated.

The DVD/CD rewritable drive VRD-VC10 is designed for best performance with discs produced by major disc manufacturers. In most cases, there is no problem as long as you use discs conform to the industry standard for various CD and DVD formats. However, some of discs on the market do not meet the recognized quality and performance standards. With the DVD/CD rewritable drive VRD-VC10, we recommend the disc manufacturers and discs below. Furthermore, it is recommended to upgrade your drive with the latest firmware (if available) at user support web site. The latest firmware can be downloaded at http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/vrd...

It could have just been your wrong time to borrow it. It could just be dirty... Try a CD/DVD cleaner.... That's about all you can hope for. Other than that let it cool down if it has been in constant use. Repair would be too costly, replacing would be the last step. If it's new it might be under warranty. If it's old it may have had too much use and died. Sorry to hear it!

Door will not open

Straighten a paper clip, locate the little hole in the drive door, insert the paper clip and give a little push on it. This is a release button in the event you can't power up a computer. If it still does not open you will probably need to replace it, getting it repaired will be just as much if not more probably.

Might be your disc contains some data, or the disc is bad, try replacing the disc and see if it works.

Burn dvd from vhs

i'm assuming you have a vcr to play your vhs tapes, just plug your audio/video cord from your vcr(out), plug into the audio/video vc10(in), start playing vcr and press rec botton whenever you want to start to record. make sure you can only use dvd+r. choose the quality for the length of time, at the end press 'function' to finalize the disc, then you are done.

VRD-VC10 says "format mismatch"

Check the manual - some DVD recorders could only handle certain brands of disks, and most will not handle Dual Layer types. Try Sony brand DVD-R disks (4.7G)

Sony vrd-vc10 drive door

Davidxjohn
Right on the drive you will find a small hole, take a pin and press it a little bit, it will open up the DVD tray for you. Sometimes the drives are just locked by some software, this is the best way to release your stuck cd or dvd.

Hope that helped!

Setup Nero for CD recording mode, not DVD. The software does not change automatically.
