Hi,
If lamp has not been replaced in tv in last 2-3 years, then replace the lamp as symptom shows that lamp has reached to end of its working life span and causing that problem.
Lamp is not dead or broke but weak so you get above said problem in tv.
Thanks.

The lamp is generally rated at 2000 hours so I would say you have done quite well. You must not watch too much TV as that would equate to a little more than 1 hour a day. There are a number of online resources where you can purchase a replacement lamp such as partstore.com and others. As I recall you will need to remove the lower trim panel to expose the lamp compartment to gain access for replacement. One key to long life on any set that uses a high intensity lamp is to allow the TV to go through its normal "cool down" cycle. Never have your sets AC power interrupted before the set cools down. After the set is shut off the fan keeps running until the unit cools sufficiently. This prolongs the life of the lamp. Some stores would have all their sets on a power strip and cut AC power instantly at the end of the day and consequently replaced many expensive lamps that could have lasted much longer.

Did you reset the lamp timer? If you replace the lamp and dont reset the lamp timer the TV will continue to display the lamp error until you do.

Tv will not turn on

For dark picture I need to ask one question, How long ago you replaced its lamp? one year, two years?

Picture brightness is depends on lamp in LCD rear projection (DLP) TVs and if lamp got weak in generating light, you will see dark picture.

I would recommend to replace lamp and buy Sony original lamp from Sony Accessories Store.

Required lamp part number is as follows..
F93087500 LAMP BLOCK ASSY XL-2400
and price is $200
Good luck.

51 magnavox projection tv-color mixing wrong

The are controls on the inside of the tv above the circuit boards for focus and to turn up intensity of the projector lamps (red, green, and blu). If you turn it up too far all three projector lamps kick off. If this happens, power off the set and turn down the lamp that you turned up. Power it back on and slowly turn the projector lamp up until the picture looks OK. You have to take off the panel on back of set to get to the controls.
