Protection of external hard drive by password

Dear Sir,

May it find you in the best of spirits!

I had bought Toshiba 160 GB MODEL NO. HDDR160E02Xexternal hard drive 1/3/2008.

I ignored when prompted to put password when I plugged in the
drive for first time. Then, I transferred some data to the drive.

Now, I feel that data must be protected by password.

Kindly guide me and let me know the procedure to protect the
already stored data and the data that shall be stored in the
external hard drive in future by a password. Thanks.

With good wishes,

Yours truly,
M D Giri

    Mr. CoolDragon,

Thanks for your try but it didn't work. You know, I have already stored some data in the drive and whenever the external drive is plugged in it only shows the data and no option for putting up password. Could you please try again? Thanks.

Just browse to the drive and right click on the folder (best to use folders) and sharing and security . make this folder private.
thats the easiest.

Mr. Giri:
If you did not input a password when prompted, just hit the Enter key and that should work.

Good Luck!

Toshiba laptop internal hard drive not showing correct amount of gb.

Are you sure they installed a 500 GB drive, I think you will find you have a 250 GB hard drive. Remove the hardware and check out the specifications, if you find what I suspect, go after the seller for misleading information, if paid using paypal you can file a complaint if the seller refuses to honour the arrangement.

Hi, I haven't used this drive (Toshiba 250GB

If retreiving data is not your expertise, I suggest you take it to a local computer guy and extract it. The drive could possible be corrupt or password protected. Try best buy.

Toshiba Hard Drive Crash

if the datas aleady deleted, then you have nothing to lose. Right ?
What you need is a 2.5 to 3.5 inch IDE ribbon cable connector.
this will enable you to put the drive into an IDE slot on the PC internal motherboard ( primary/secondary )
Unless it,s already 3.5"
boot the computer, see if it recognises the drive. And format it.
then you may be able, to re-fit back into the external casing, and use as an external again.

Everything is possible. Few points. Is this external hd? Did you used the software and the drivers given by the manufacturer? Which OS are you using?
Yes it is possible to erase everything on any type of the drive and start from scratch. You can do this by formatting the drive make sure you do NTFS format.
Let me know please!
