BM - After Self-Clean Problem -- 30

I have a 30" Electric Whirlpool Double Oven -- Model # GBD307PDQ6.After a self-clean session appeared to finish (control panel indicatedthat cooling started) the control panel and all operations weredisabled/failed. I checked the main circuit breaker and nothing hadtripped. I took off the trim pieces and lifted the front control paneloff to test power to the motherboard. I was getting 120VAC into theboard but the step-down transformer didn't show any voltage (high orlow side). I'm tempted to pull the oven out to locate the two thermaloverload fuses but thought I'd ask an expert first. I have a hunch itmay not be a fuse if I'm getting power to the control panelmotherboard. I'm thinking my motherboard could be the broken link. Whatsuggestions would you have for me? Thanks - Brian

    catriver,

I tested both the lower and upper circuits and found open loops on both. So with that I'm going to follow up with your hunch and buy a lower and upper thermal fuses after pulling out the old ones. When I pull out the oven do I need to disconnect the wires to the terminal block? Any other tips for pulling the oven out? So far I'm very impressed with your feedback so thank you. -Brian

    Catriver,

Over the weekend I was able to pull the oven out and replace the TCO's. Before re-inserting the oven I flipped the breaker back on to test. I got power back to the control panel but after about 1-minute the panel read the following error code (F2 E1). According to my tech sheet this error means... "Keypad keytail not connected". The recommended repair procedure said, "(1) Check keypad connector for firm connection, (2) Press CANCEL, If error code returns after 60 seconds replace keypad, (3) Replace control. I did (1) and after repowering the same error code appeared. Per (2) I don't have a "CANCEL" button on the control panel. Do I need to purchase a new control panel? Is there any chance the problem could still be in the motherboard? I do have go voltage readings on both windings of the transformer. Let me know your thoughts. - Thanks Brian

    Catriver,

I tried that sequence and the same error did occur. When the power is back on the first thing that is displayed is "PF" and the "TIME". After approximately 60 seconds then I hear three double-beeps and then panel reads "F2 E1". When I called up my local appliance depot store. They quoted $204 for a Control Board with membrane. I'm assuming this is the touch panel and includes the ribbon that connects to the motherboard. Thanks - Brian

    Catriver,

Did you get a chance to read my last comment from Feb. 4th? Do you think I should replace the touch panel which in includes the membranes (estimated at $204)? Thanks - Brian

Brian, I think it would more in the keypad than the control. Try this, kill the power to the oven and disconnect the keypad. If you can, clean the end of the ribbon with an eraser. Plug it back it and see if the error returns. If it does, kill the power, unplug the keypad and power up, let me know if the same error comes up. At least we got the power back to the board. Brain, check your thermal fuse first. You can do this at the board. lower oven, p26-2 orange or p26-4 red wire to red wire at the terminal block. Should show closed circuit. Upper oven, p18-4 red or p18-1 red to red wire at terminal block. Should read closed circuit. If open, there is your problem. Control transformer is as follows, primary windings, P16-5 red to p16-7 red, 75 to 95 ohms. Secondary windings, p16-2 blue to p16-3 blue , 2 to 4 ohms. I do believe your problem is in the thermal fuse on the back. Post back, Catriver

Brian, just kill the power at the breaker. You should have enough line to slide it out. It's best to get a friend to help you with this. Maybe get some milk crates so you can slide the oven out and rest them on the crates. While some one holds the oven, the other removes the back panel and changes out the TCO's. Catriver.

Brian, looks like you are going to have to go for it. It's the only other thing. If you want, you can get the part at repairclinic.com. If it doesn't work they will refund the money, no questions asked. Catriver.

Replaced control panel and keypad 1 1/2 years ago seen the error codes now I was self cleaning oven everything went off no error codes or anything house breaker ok PLEASE help.

Self clean is hard on controls. I do not recommend self clean. Kills expensive parts. If the temp goes above 300 in the control panel, a control panel fuse will melt, killing the power to the control.

Probably a bad door lock solenoid. That is some kind of door lock problem. Trouble is they are not all the same. This training manual shows locations of model number. Perhaps if you post that I might can come up with a tech sheet and you would get a better answer. see page 4

there are switches under the cooktop that go bad frequently. i do not recommend ever using the self clean mode in an oven. the oven gets so hot that things have a tendency to melt because they dont build stuff like they used to. there is inadequate insulation in modern ovens. use easy off and follow the label directions. it'll be cheaper in the long run, trust me.
