NO PICTURE, NO SOUND, TV TURNS ON THEN TURNS OFF

Panasonic PT-53TW53G manufactured 03/04; When turn power button on TV clicks on (with no sound,no picture) then clicks off after 3-5 seconds. Then the red power button blinks 3 times followed by a 5-7 second gap and then blinks 3 times again. It does this continuously until unplugged.

Could you tell me how to replace this power supply and do you have a part number for this model PT-53TW53G?

    Thanks!

Hello, I have the same Tv model and the identical issue as rarewish4us. Is this a power supply problem? Is so, how complicated/dangerous is this to replace. I'm very good at taking soldering.

    Thanks for your help,

    Howard

I just encountered the same problem as described by rarewish4us. Has anyone identified a fix yet? Thanks

  • rarewish4us Feb 09, 2008

Well, I had a TV repair man out and look at the set, just to tell me that it is the power supply board, but guess what? Panasonic does not make this part for this model anymore and the part is almost impossible to find. Even though the tv is only 3 years old we have to junk it now. I hope others have better luck with their televisions.

Hi Howard, My question to you is do I need to purchase the iron and solder sucker along with the two convergence amplifiers?

Will these parts have to be soldered in?

    Thanks!

Well Howard I am writing to tell you that our TV has been FIXED!!!!!!!!!!! We appreciate your input SO MUCH! The picture is better than ever and we couldn't begin to thank you enough for your input! I hope others do not go and 'JUNK' theirs like we almost did because a tv repair man didn't want to do his job and fix it! Once again we send our most sincere gratitude for all your help!

    Hi Sam,

I just replaced the convergence amps and that solved our problem. I would check on imac's issue too with your tv just to be sure that it isnt that also or otherwise the problem. It is alot of pain to remove the board and such if it winds up being both problems. Hope this helps! Good luck!

rarewish4us , I am having the same problem. Did you have to replace a resistor too or did just replacing the convergence amplifiers fix it?

    TIA,

    Sam

I had the same problem as rarewish4us described above and believe I've identified the problem. I have a resistor that is burnt out # R7013. It is a 2.2 ohm resistor that costs $0.90 from Panasonic. I found this issue had happened to others on another website and confirmed it was the problem by trying to turn the tv on and watching this resistor start glowing red for a couple of seconds before the tv turns off. I plan on replacing the resister and soldering it in. To do so, I have to remove the board from the tv and was wondering if someone could tell me which high voltage components I need to be aware of and is it safe to just disconnect all of the connectors and cables that are plugged into the board? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Well, Everything said on this site is true. I recently had a breakdown on the same type of TV and through this site and the comments left, I was able to repair my tv for less than $50. (Extra cost for upgrading my soldering iron that wasn't getting hot enough) It was amazing. The feeling when the tv powered up and stayed on. Credit goes to Howard and Chris Palmer for their comments. It is possible. You just have to commit and do it. Its not as hard as you might think. Thanks guys.

STOP THE PRESS!! I FIXED MY TV for a whopping $26.

I took a wild shot and purchased two STK392-110 convergence amplifiers from http://www.electronix.com/. They ship fast, placed my order on Tuesday evening after coming here and placing my comment. To my suprise the parts were in my mailbox on Friday. The parts were actually $12 but I also picked up a iron and a solder sucker.

So rarewish4us, If you're in the South Florida area I'd be more than happy to take that "JUNK" off your hands. LOL
If I were you, I'd give it a shot before you junk it.

Good luck,
Howie

rarewish4us, you don't have to if you already own them. I did not so I went ahead and picked them up while placing my order. Yes, the bad convergence amplifiers will have to be de-soldered (hence the solder sucker) and the new ones re-soldered in place. If you do attempt it be very careful when soldering the new amplifiers in place, careful not to let the solder touch the adjoining legs.

Good luck and go for it!

rarewish4us, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I am happ I was able to assist but I can not take the credit. All credit goes to "Chris Palmer", (http://cmpalmer.blogspot.com/2006/11/fix...) I came across his blog while trying to fix my own set. So he's the one who deserves all the thanks.

    All the best,

    Howard

My pt-53tw53g was made in 04. It turns on and has sound but I have no picture. Just a black screen. Can see a line with some color coming down the middle if I look hard enough. Can you help me?

Yes, it has a bad capacitor on the D board and it will usually be easy to find as this will have a crack in it.

There is an easy and a hard way to approach this and I need to know which you want....

Thats a strong possibility that the converegence feed resistors could be open. Also double check the wire connections especially the white bridge connectors that are from one board to the other. Also recheck the IC pins for any sign of bridged pins or inadequate solder.

Has anyone had problems with connecting an 'HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input,HDMI+ Audio output)' to a Panasonic PT-53TW53? I have a TiVo Premiere hooked up to my Panasonic PT-53TW53. I use the HDMI out, and RCA R+L outputs on the TiVo, and hook up to the digital in connections on the TV. The conversion of the HDMI out is via an HDMI to DVI cable. This has worked perfectly for years, but recently I wanted to disconnect the TiVo and replace with my Roku or Amazon Fire TV. Both have a single HDMI output. So I purchased an AGPtek HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input, HDMI+ Audio output) box, hooking up the HDMI output from the Roku or Fire TV to the input on the extractor/converter, and simply disconnecting the HDMI to DVI and RCA R+L outputs from the TiVo, and plugging them into the outputs on the converter/extractor. The converter/extractor has a 3 position switch: PASS, 2CH audio, or 5.1CH (via and SPDIF or Toslink cable). I have had 2 of these converter/extractors, and with both the Roku and Fire TV I got the same results with both converter/extractors: With the switch on 2CH, which is where I understand I should get HDMI video and 2CH RCA audio, all I get is the RCA audio. No video. If I switch to PASS I get video with no audio. Of course on the 5.1 setting I get nothing, since the TV does not support SPDIF. Yet I see reviews all over Amazon indicating folks are using this converter/extractor for this very purpose, and it is working fine. I can't possibly imagine that it is some sort of incompatibility issue with the TV, since the TiVo has worked (and continues to) fine for years. Any ideas?
