Roland 1680 I'm trying to load the standard midi files [smf] i downloaded from the roland website into my 1680 from my computer. I purchased 2 different usb-to-midi interface cables with software. I followed the directions from a couple of roland support techs on downloading the files to the 1680. when i get to the "waiting midi-ex " section, and i press send, the 1680 still displays "waiting midi-ex".it doesn't do anything else.roland support is now closed, and i'd really like to get this taken care of a.s.a.p thanks willie g

MY PC wont recognize my Tascam Portastudio device2488, i have Vista

Tascam 2488:
I use Vista and my 2488 MK1.

When you plug in the USB cable from the 2488 into your Vista PC, Vista will always say 'not recognised'.
You do not need any PC drivers for the 2488. On the Tascam 2488, go to 'Menu', then 'Disk', then 'USB Open/Close', then click 'Yes'.
On your PC the 2488 will appear as a new hard drive in the 'Computer' folder, called HDR2488.
You'll see three folders in there: WAVE, SMF and BACKUP.
Use the WAVE folder to import and export WAV files, the SMF folder to import midi files to the 2488, and the BACKUP folder is where you can import and export Backup files to and from the 2488.
Hope this helps!

I've been exporting master tracks and now I've reached a point where the tascam says, "master track too big". how do I free up space on the FAT partition?

If you NO LONGER NEED the songs/data in the FAT partition, you can delete the entire contents thereof in the manner detailed below. Note that these instructions were taken directly from the Neo manual.

1 With the transport stopped, from the DISK menu, highlight FAT REFORM, and press YES/ENTER.
2 A pop-up message appears.
3 Ask yourself once more if you want to erase all the data on the FAT partition. Press YES/ENTER to continue with the operation when a pop-up appears, or press NO/EXIT to halt the operation.
4 When you reformat the FAT partition, four directories (folders) named WAVE, SMF, BACKUP and UTILITY are automatically created. These folders are used for audio files, Standard MIDI Files (SMF) and backup data and system utilities, respectively.

...this will reformat and thereby EMPTY the contents of the FAT partition and create the 4 new, empty files as listed above.

THINK before you do this though, and I hope this helps.

If you have the drivers for your unit installed, it should show up as a midi device, and then choose it as a midi input.

Recording midi player

Yes. You can record the midi output to a track using bounce mode.

With you midi (or smf) file loaded into the midi tone generator,
press shift-bounce to enter bounce mode. Then arm a track for recording. Turn the fader up for that track, the master fader and the fader for the midi tone generator. Make sure than all other track faders are down or the tracks are muted (or empty) and press play and record. The midi song will be recorded to the track in real time. Just press 'stop' when done and exit bounce mode (by pressing the bounce button again).

File import

Try IMPORT instead of just trying to load them on your SPD-S.
The SPD-S uses some kind of its own file-format.
