I have a Maytag refrigerator (model MSD2454GR)side by side. It has two problem. We cannot keep the icemaker working. Ever since we bought it, the ice maker will stop working. When it was under warranty, it stopped and the company we bought it from sent someone out and they replaced the computer. Now it is no longer under warranty and it has stopped working again. We have replaced the pump but it still doesn't work and we've been told its not the computer?? Any ideas? Two, water is leaking is the freezer and freezing at the bottom where the drawer is-we can't see water leaking but obviously it is coming from somewhere... Please advise... Thanks Kandy

So how many times has the ice maker stopped working? seems like you are having bad luck with these ice makers. One of the problems is the electronic modules on those models do that but I really don't know what may be causing yours to go so many times. yes the control board sometimes will stop them but it will stop a lot of other things too if that was the reason. Sounds to me the technician took advantage on that call just to put one in. The computer does have something to do with power but I think he or she took advantage of you. Now if you can pour tap water into the tray slots and it will freeze and drop the ice then the water control valve is the problem. You know I could make enough money just being honest with the customer. Try the water trick and let me know what happens and we will decide from there, OK? Thanks, Sea Breeze.

Wait just a minuite here water too? You may have a defrost condensate drain blocked by ice or some gunk, I want you to move things around inside and see if coming from the ice maker or the bottom of the freezer back wall. If there then we got to get that straightend out too! click here=.> REPAIR OF LEAKING REFRIGERATORS I want you to read over that and watch the short movie and then get back with me with some answers to the questions I asked. You may contact me here at Fixya or Appliance 911 or through my website SEA BREEZE APPLIANCE PARTS AND TECHNICAL SERVICES Let me know, Thanks, sea Breeze

Unplug fridge from outlet.Pull fridge away from the wall and undo 6 screws on back black felt. Take everything out of freezer including 3 shelves and bottom drawer. the bottom drawer has two catch tabs on the top that pinch to release. (my whole drawer was frozen to the bottom of freezer, used a screwdriver to break up) Undo the two screws towards the middle of fridge and remove the two white panels. the bottom one slides up and out. break up the ice and under the metal there is a hole that leads to a drain tube and into a drain pan. I used a hairdryer to melt ice inside tube and poured a cup of boiling water into tube to clear. You should see the water collect in the drain pan from behind the fridge. I used a sponge to soak up the extra water after. Reassemble and plug back in.

Sea Breeze - you rock! Follow instructions in your link. I was doing everything except the last steps of running hot water down the defrost condensate drain and using the wet/dry vac to **** out and clean out the drain hose.
Damn if I haven't been deaking with this problem for like a year. Every month I would be cleaning out the freeze and getting rid of the ice. If it continues, then I'm going to try your condensate drain heater rig

I have this same fridge. For a long time I thought my ice maker did not work either and I also found water had spilled inside the freezer. It was frozen at the bottom and on the contents of the freezer. It turn out to be the tube that feeds water into the ice maker was not inserted properly. I am not sure how it became loose but inserting in into the ice maker fixed it. The tube is in the upper left hand corner and feeds into the ice maker in the back end.

Ice maker does not work

Hi,
The first step you need to do is to turn the water off to the refrigerator so it quits making until you get it fixed.
If your fridge has the control boards in each side of the freezer cabinet that controls the icemaker, then you have a failed board. If you have a standard icemaker with the metal shutoff arm then you have a failed motor module in the icemaker. You can remove the icemaker and unplug the wiring connector from it so you can leave the water on to the dispenser.

Water line flows freely on my msd2454gr - freezer is cold - ice maker seems to have electricity to it to levers move and the ice maker lever moves - but never hear water going to the ice maker - i have...

Hi, Yes you can. When the icemaker cycles, do you hear the inlet valve buzzing? If you blew through the line that goes from the inlet valve to the icemaker and it is open, sounds like the inlet valve is bad.

Freezer is almost always running....

If you look at the icemaker, you will see a metal wire which runs along the side of the unit. If you manually swing the wire arm up until it locks in place (about 90 degree swing from the normal straight down position) you will have turned the icemaker off. (Alternatively you can unplug the electrical plug from the icemaker which goes into the freezer wall.)
If the icemaker is not turned off, it will periodically cycle, which turns on the ice cube mode release heater during it's cycle, putting unnecessary heat into your freezer. You do not need to plug the ice maker supply line. This should be a Fix-Ya for your refrig.

Maytag refrigerator, Model MSD2454GR

Your best bet is to shut the unit down for a while and let it defrost. You've probably got your box set too cold. 0-5 degrees on freezer...38-42 on fridge side. If your unit is not digital, use a regular outdoor thermometer, close the door for half an hour and then open to read it. Adjust accordingly. If too cold...you're using too much energy, too.
