-   I've been getting the "NO DISK" error on my DVP-NS300 - off and on - for about 6 mths. I assumed that it was just being picky about dirty disks, but about 2wks ago it would no longer play any disk - even new one.
Being handy, I popped the case and tried the "cleaning" route. No effect.
While I had the case off, I noticed that the drive motor sounded and looked like it was having trouble. I thought, Eureka! Now if only I could find the replacement part. After some searching, I found a store on e-bay that carried the exact part I needed for about $40. I figured I'm home free. I'll order the part, pop it in and I'm good to go.
In a perfect world, that would be the end of my story. Unfortunately, (after installing the new optical pickup) I discovered that, although the motor does run much quieter and with more gusto, I'm still getting the same "NO DISK" error. Obviously, something else is wrong. :(
What I'm kicking myself about now is that I discovered (a bit late) that I could have sent it back to the factory on a "swap out" program for about $55 - check out the Sony service site.-
