not necessarily... if the game works on other computers... it isn't the game... make sure there's no dust... dirt... fingerprints... ect. on the disk... open the drive... get a can of air... use the straw... and blow it out... if it still doesn't work... then the drive might not support that game... and you'll need to upgrade it.
the combo drive you listed above is a cd-rw/ DVD-ROM....meaning that it will play and burn cd, cd-r, and cd-rw disks. the dvd rom will only be able to play dvd-rom and dvd-r disks providing they are in the proper format. check that the disk in question is not a dvd-rw or (+2) disk. the drive will not recognize that a disk is in the drive if the disk isnt compatable. try a dvd movie, if that works then a dvd-r, if that works then try a dvd-rw +1. if the last option doesnt work then you will have to stick with the dvd-rom and dvd-r, or purchase a dvd-rw drive to install.
Turn off your computer and unplug. Remove the left and right side panels.
Remove the covering of the drive bay that you plan to use for your new CD/DVD Drive.
Set the jumper. This is the most difficult part involved with the
installation process. If you only have one drive for your system set
your jumper on the back the drive to Master. If you have two or more
set it to slave. Consult your drives manual to see a picture of what a
master/slave jumper configuration looks like. It is best to have the
fastest drive set as the master.
After you have set the jumpers insert the drive into the empty drive bay you selected.
Secure your CD/DVD drive to your computers chassis with screws and a
screwdriver. Mounting screws are typically included with your drive.
Locate and connect the required power and IDE cables to the back of the
drive. These cables are keyed, meaning they are shaped specifically for
that drive. It's impossible to install the wrong cables.
Put the side panels back on and plug your computer back in. Turn it on
and your computer should recognize the new drives. If they are not
recognized you may need to install the drivers, which are usually
included on a CD that's included with your new drive.
I hope that helps. If you have any more questions, let me know.
It may be really dirty or just to old or has had laser failure.
There cheap these days, and CD drive with DVD Rom reading ability are like $20 to $30 depending on speed and brand.
A DVD/CD RW writer reader are also getting cheaper, around $60 and up usually.
And some advice. Dont by HP Pavilions. I've worked on alot and i find they have outdated parts cuz there remanufactured from older computers and you have a hard time upgrading due to hard to find drivers
This can be due to the reason that the certain cd roms cannot be read by your drive. please insert and check other brand cd roms...if they run then the cd rom u r using cannot be read by ur Cd.dvdw DVD drive
