VCR SLP playback problem

VCR Records Both SP and SLP. Plays SP OK, but does a lot of rolling with SLP. VCR- SLP plays on other units with no problem. Any thoughts as to what the trouble may be?
DVD OK except that it does not record a full 4 hours on LP, but runs about 8 minutes short.

Has been cleaned about 20 times with wet head cleaner.

  • hilo Feb 11, 2008

Thank you.Your suggestion prompted me to try more cleaning. Did so about 10 more times, had a slight flicker in playback. Still using wet cleaner as recommended in instruction manual. Hoe often should heads be cleaned?

    Don't use a wet cleaner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you use good tapes tdk, maxell you should have it professional cleaned once a year but that all depends how much you use it, if you record soaps everyday then 6 months

The VCR has at least four "heads" two are for 2 hr and two for 6 hour (sp and slp)

It is most likely one of the heads used in the SLP mode is slightly blocked with tape debris--heads need to be manually cleaned in the right way.

My vcr tapes play too fast

If I remember correctly, VCR players had three speed settings. SP-short play, LP-Long play, and SLP- Super long play. The vcr is supposed to be able to tell what speed the tape was recorded at, thus playing it back at the correct speed. If your unit has lost the ability to sense the speed the tape was recorded then you will have to set the speed manually, if possible. Other than that I would have to say it's time to get a new vcr.

Poor EP playback

hi sir
the speed in EP is differ from sp ,EP it is much slow then all quality would be less cause you are using less magnetic particles on the tape so here are many reasons for bad recording
first may be you have to clean video heads
or ,you have to clean the path of the tape in the recorder there are some metal guides that turnes with the tape to get it rounds the heads they may be dirty
or clean the capstain pinch roller and its metal roller that makes it run ( the capstain roller )
or you should have new heasd drum sir

VCR recording

As with all tape related recording equiptment, the path the tape follows in your machine will collect debris which will interfere with the synchronizing playback signals originally recorded on our tape when first recorded. The "ROLLING" is the loss of those synchronizing signals and the "skewing" of the tape where the heads are now reading between the recorded information causing noise at the top or bottom or throughout the entire screen. SOLUTION for about 85% of machines exhibiting this problem is CLEANING and inspection of tape path alignment best done with a calibrated playback tape for accuracy. HOPE this helps . . . Jaszy
