Ok 2 solutions for 2 seperate issues. Before we begin the silver strip you are refering to is recongnizable to the PS2 as the main power source. It comes from where the reset and power button are located and slides in place underneath the disc holder to tell the PS2 we have power.
Ok moving on.
Issue #1 Where the strip is all intact and nothing broke off it with the white tipped end just fine. What you need to do to fix this. MAKE NOTE HERE THAT THIS WILL VOID ANY WARRANTY U HAVE ON THE PS2. Go online and find a step-by-step instruction on how to take the top off then the disc holder. Now you need tweezers for this. You have the Silver Strip and if you look under the disc holder you will see 3 slots (2 filled with other silver strips) the middle is the power. Take the tweezers and put them on the tip of the stripe and GENTLY AND I STRESS GENTLY slide it into the slot with the blue tip underneath.
Issue #2 Where the strip is off but is in half. You need super glue you should be able to super glue the two parts back together if you are careful. JUST REMEMBER SONY WILL NOT TAKE IT SINCE TAKING OFF THE TOP VOIDS ANY WARRANTY. If the super glue works then follow same instructions in solution #1 sliding it into place if not able to be super glued then your PS2 is no longer functional and im srry for the loss. (If that's the case i can make it to the funeral just not the viewing) Happy Fixings!
Hope this Helped and was very Easy to Understand

Since it is out of warranty you should take it apart and get the part number for your dvd drive and buy a new one.... but since you are broke, then forget it. They cost about 40-70 bucks to do yourself. Google replace ps3 drive online for directions on how to do this.
its a coincidence, the buttons sensor just broke. I can replace it a t my store its really easy. go on ebay and look for a new sensor bar for the psp you can install yourself with a set of small phillips head screwdrivers and one flat. good luck!
I have the same problem.. I cant put YES on home and my R button isnt working either.. but I've noticed that if I push down the power button to the HOLD lvl and then put it again to the medium lvl it works like the R button -_-'' ..
Sometimes someone will have somethhing sticky on their fingers when they press the power reset button and cause it to glue in place. What you have to do is Remove the screw covers, and 6 screws from the bottom of the slim. These covers are square and one is under the warranty sticker. Tow of the rubber pad feet will remove to expose the screws. Use a knife to pry up the covers. Two of the rubber feet do not remove, they are the ones closest to the front. Open the case, and check to see if you can clean up the power switch button. It is attach to the top half. no problem getting the plastic top half wet when you clean it.
