Re: New PS3 60G shuts itself all the way down!!!!!!!

I restarted my ps3 because I couldn't connect with a friend online in CoD4. It wouldn't turn back on! I'm getting it replaced. Also I had the 2.40 firmware wich was yanked because it was messing up PS3s. I don't know what killed it though. Just get it replaced by sony. Assuming it is under waranty it is free, and quick.

Sounds like it's overheating. 1st person shooters take a lot of processing speed and will overtax your unit if you don't have adequate ventilation. Be sure you have the unit standing on it's side, flat down is not good unless you have some standoff room underneath by propping it up, making sure you don't cover the vents. If it continues, you can buy something like this

Fully backwards compatible ps3 shuts down with 3 beeps and flashing red light when trying to play ps1 games

Hmmmnnn, consider the reason they pulled the rev compatible system off the market. It is possible to be getting the symptoms of YLOD without it actually happening with some games. The older games spun faster(sometimes) and made the system work harder. It could be heating up and shutting down right at the point of failure. I've seen 2 different revers compatible systems YLOD the same way. Good luck.

My Sony PS3 is the orginal 60 GB unit and worked fine for quite a few years until the icon stopped appearing. This meant I could play blue ray, CD, DVDs. I had no problem playing a game that was on the...

You can try to do a system recovery on your PS3. this will set your PS3 back to factory settings as the settings may have been changed during the use. Here is the process in which you can do a system recovery.'

PS3 Recovery Menu

  1. Place the PS3 in standby mode
  2. Press and hold the power button for a couple of seconds, you should hear a beep
  3. Keep a hold of the power button for a couple more seconds, the PS3 should shut back down to standby mode
  4. Once this happens, press and hold the power button again for a couple of seconds, waiting for 1 single beep.
  5. Ignore this beep and keep it pressed until you hear 2 consecutive beeps, release the button.
I think you choose option 3 and then repeat and choose option 4. Once you are done with this, try out your PS3.

Trying to play Call of Duty 1 playstion2 on PS3

Some games will do this if you are holding the control-stick any direction while starting the system.

Next time you play it, try holding the stick just slightly in the opposite direction to compensate as you start the system, or unplug the controller-hold the stick down, then plug back in ( while playing )

If that doesn't work, it might be time for a new controller. Or you could open it ( disconnect first ) and check around the stick for anything that might be pushing it up.

PS3 will not turn on at all

your PS3 probably overheated. it does this with 2-3 hours of nostop play. you need to cocheck it every 20-30 mintues after one hour and take breaks to let it cool down, so it doesnt malfunction. i would take it to somewhere like Game Stop and have it shipped for repair. i would also leave it unplugged and not try to turn it on, for the risk of further damage.

Playstation 3 shuts down as game loads

Generally there are a couple of things that can cause this. Bad installs of games, and more commonly thermal damage. The bad news is it will probably have to be repaired and Sony generally charges about $150 for that. Hopefully its under warranty? =)

There is some talk that the new firmware download may have altered physical parts that control the temperature inside the unit. Although that's just heresay i've been hearing more and more people thinking this is the case.

System shuts off and turns to red light standby

Hello. You may want to double check your connections and cables. The only time I've ever heard a clicking before a system shut it's self down was when a kid had stuck the battery cover from a TV remote into the disc drive.
Also, if the PS3 keeps acting like that, Sony will repair/replace the unit for free including shipping since it's under a year old. Thanks and good luck!

My PS3 wont started up

Hey did you try a hard reset?
Shut the system off then turn it on.
You should now have the red light on the ps3.
Hold the power on and it will kick green beep then go back to red.
Then try to push power again.
If not it may be the heat transfer compound in the system which is wearing away causing it to over heat and shut down as a safety percaution.
