My pixma 1600 printed one sheet perfectly after fitting newly refilled cartridges. Then the next time I tried, it said sometimes 'cartridge not installed correctly' and sometimes 'the holder is at the replacement position' - which indeed it was. I obeyed the instructions from Cartridge World, which worked previosly , but not this time.
Any ideas please?
I'd be so grateful

The manual for the PIXMA iP1600 says the following concerning the 5 blinks:
The ink cartridges are not properly installed, or a non-supported ink cartridge is installed (the ink cartridge EEPROM data is abnormal). Install the ink cartridges properly. Or, confirm that the supported ink cartridges are installed.
If you haven't already I would take a look at the electrical contacts on the cartridge to make sure they are clean (free of dust and ink) and then reinstall them in the printer. If the printer gives the same error, it's time to buy a new cartridge. 3 refills from a cartridge is not bad at all.
For the Canon Pixma MP220, I kept getting a message saying "Col Ink Vol Unknown" after refilling and replacing a cartridge. After reading some of the other responses it appears as though Canon cartridges contain internal chips that prevent you from using them after they have been refilled. However, I tried a few things and this is what worked for me.
1. Insert your refilled Canon cartridge like normal, close the lid.
2. The Error message "Col Ink Vol Unknown" should still appear.
3. Use the "Menu" button to scroll to "Maintenance" (press "Menu" 8 times to find it), then press "OK" to conduct a "Nozzle Check" and a coloured test will print out.
4. The Error message will still appear but you will be able to print using colour AND with black and white. For some silly reason the Canon Pixma MP220 won't print using black and white if there is no coloured ink...
Fifteen Flashes: The FINE Cartridge cannot be recognized.
Possible causes are as follows:
- The FINE Cartridge may not be installed properly.
- The FINE Cartridge may not be compatible with this printer.
Install the appropriate FINE Cartridge. If lines are misaligned or the resulting output is not satisfactory, carry out the Print Head Alignment.
I would take it back to the dealer and get an exchange. Sometimes the quality on refilled cartridges is not as good as it should be. I've had similar problems and had to changed to ordering refills online at LD Products without any more problems.
as i can suggest you that it can be the problem of head clogged internally where you insert your black cartridge .and the other main cause is while you give a head cleaning command to get the cartridge cleaned it sucks or pulls the ink from the cartridge in such a huge quantity that 3-4 cleanings make the cartridge totally empty .due to this the ink gets very low and the printouts come with streaks.many a times setting the print mode in best makes the copy perfect.but the printing gets too slow in that best mode.
Hello all, I have had an MP600 for a few years now, and after paying about £50-£60 a set of inks i decided to use compatible ones and i also spent £20.00 on a ink resetter from Sudhaus http://www.patronenhandel.de/shop/en/Redsetter/MP-Serie/MP-600/mit-Refill-Set After about a year of owning the MP600 i got the dreaded U052 error, so i went back to genuine inks, however this did not clear the error. i then decided to telephone Canon and they advised me to clean the print head thoroughly. If you look at the print head there is a white plate with 2 screws either side, i rmoved that CAREFULLY and cleaned behind it, i reinstalled everything back to normal and 2 years later i am still running perfect with no issues what so ever...I'm not sure what resolved the issue but i now refill my genuine cartridges myself and reset the chip with the Sudhaus resetter. To refill your cartridge use the tube inside the genuine ink cartridge DO NOT refill from the top, you will see the 2 arrows on the GENUINE ink cartridge pierce between there and use a long syringe to refill. Hope this helps people in the future.
