the pcmcia slots are not seeing my d-link adapter when installed. also I get the error message "This device can perform faster; This USB Device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Port". I was told that this Thinkpad does not have USB 2.0 Ports, is this true and if so can they be upgraded.

- What is a USB 2.0 that you are referring to. and Where do I get it.
Next question is the PCMCIA problem that I am having.

- I am sorry but what you said is related to what part of my questions. The USB Port or the PCMCIA Problem. Your not very clear.
yes. your laptop has a onboard version 1.1 usb ports.
you can upgrade it by buying a usb 2.0 and connect it to your laptop

- The Personal Computer Memory Card International Association is an international standards body that defines and promotes the PC Card (formerly known as "PCMCIA card") and ExpressCard standards. Although the organization's name refers to memory cards, their standards are not limited to memory devices.

- provide a external USB 2.0 port for your laptop

- "This device can perform faster; This USB Device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Port"
this means that your flash disk is a USB 2.0 version. if you connect to usb 1.1 port which is the built-in port for your laptop. it will prompt you this message. Transfer rate will be slower 12x than usb 2.0
Jan 28, 2008
- data transfer rate:
usb 1.1 = 1.5 MB/s
usb 2.0 = 60 MB/s

hi i had the same problem when trying to use memory stick have you installed the software that came with the device. When you get that message cancel it as its not important when your device is plugged goto my computer and see if it is listed their. If it is select it then it should be working. If it is not listed then plug your device in the goto add hardware wizard and let the comp search for hardware devices when this has finished then scroll down the list untill you see your hardware device then select this and if you have disk tick box if not let the comp search the net for the correct software and settings. Doing this solved the problem for me. Let me know how you get on and if you need further assistance

I am in college, this would be my second computer (my current laptop is too cumbersome to carry), so it just needs to do Internet, MS Word, and MS Powerpoint, maybe movies when I travel and sometimes iTunes. (I will be buying MS Office and an external cd/dvd drive.)
Would you buy an HP Mini 311 with WIN 7 or Toshiba Satellite T115?
