Question about Panasonic Lumix DMC-LC33 Digital Camera

"No Memory Card" Error Message

I've had my DMC-LC33 for several years and have never had a problem. Recently it stopped recognizing the memory card (SanDisk 2GB), and the message "No Memory Card" appears in the display. I tried using another memory card, and had the same issue, yet both memory cards work in other cameras, so it's obviously a problem with the camera and not the cards.

I contacted Panasonic, but since it's no longer under warranty, it will cost a minimum of $160 to repair. Before I trash this camera that I love, does anyone here know if there's a simple way to fix this problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Devocap. Thanks for the quick reply. I have to quick follow-up questions. (1) If I don't have a card reader, can I use another camera to delete the contents of the memory card, or could this possibly affect that camera?, and (2) How do I format the card in my DMC-LC33 if the camera doesn't recognize the card? Will that change once the card is empty?

Once again, your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hello again. I deleted all photos & re-formatted the memory card on another camera, but my Panasonic DMC-LC33 still doesn't recognize that (or any other) memory card. Otherwise, the camera seems to be functioning properly. Any suggestions on how to get the camera to read the cards? Perhaps the sensor that reads the memory card is dirty. Is there a way to clean it? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem occuring with my camera. When i turn it on, it says 'Memory card error format this card? (yes no). When i hit Yes, it just reads 'format error' on camera screen. I have tried different cards, as well as deleting all contents from my card. I just cant seem to get past that error screen no matter what settings i put on the camera. Any ideas? Thanks!!!!!!!!

Hi, I have the same camera. I got the error msg 'Memory card protected', although the SD-card was not in the locked position. I checked the card slot and poked at the spring which checks for the 'SD card locked position' with a toothpick. It's allright again for now.

Hey there richman666, I have had similiar problems with card recognition in the past and the issue seems to have been related to a format problem occurring when you use other programs to alter contents of the card. I solved my problem by reformatting the card in the camera after I deleted all contents using a card reader connected to my computer. Alternately, you may want to try another smaller size card (512mb). Some cameras are not recognizing the new cards with larger memory. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Hey there richman666, You can generally use what you have to erase the contents of your card. Many printers also have card readers. I would not worry about the other camera being affected. Try asking the other camera to reformat the card. Reinstall it in your original camera ensuring that the slot area is not dirty or obstructed. If recognized, then reformat and all is well. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Why do i get memory card error and format error on my camera

Hi Tami,
Many people experience similar problem but the cause may be different. One of the main cause is an infection by a virus when you connect your camera (SD card) to a computer. All you need to do to find out is - connect the SD card using a card reader to a computer with working virus program and scan it, than try to reformat. If you receive a pop-up message that the card cannot be formatted, you are doomed. Get a replacement card.

My Panasonic DMC-FZ20 says Memory Card Error.

Hi
Please check your cameras capability to support larger sized SD cards. It may not support those two SD cards. Also check for slide locks on the side of the cards and slide them to 'open' before inserting.

Hope it helps.Thanks!

Canon SD1300 memory card locked

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common cause is having the tiny slide switch on the side of the card in the wrong position. But, if you've checked the slide switch, the internal switch in the card slot may be jammed by a grain of sand or gunk. Here are troubleshooting steps for this problem. Recommend the toothpick fix for your particular problem.

Camera wont read memory card error message say: memory card error, please check the card. I dont think its the card becaouse other devices can read it

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". Some include trying to use of a 4GB SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Others include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link.

Lumix DMC-LC33 shows memory card error -format this card? Yes or NO..no matter the Sd card , if select yes- no results, if select no - no results.

This normally happens when the memory card gets corrupt. Hope you have pressed OK after selecting YES. Check whether the card is locked. SD card has a small Lock button on the top left. If this fails, buy a new SD card and format it in the camera before taking any image.

My camera doesn't recognize the memory card

The problem may be simpler to solve. Perhaps you never normally change the setting from iA (intelligent auto), but the wheel with settings can get moved by accident. If it goes around one place counter-clockwise, it puts it onto the built-in memory, it seems. I had the same problem, and it frustrated me for months!

Message: Memory Card Error - Memory Card Parameter Error on 4gb SDHC card

I recently bought a DMC-TZ3 and have been researching memory cards. Several sites sell cards with the camera and list the card type. I would suggest buying one of these cards. Any cards larger than 2gb must be SDHC type SD cards. There appear to different types of SDHC cards, 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0. Check out Wikipedia.org for a description. 2.0 cards are not compatable for devices developed prior to 2.0 so that may be the reason for the camera problem. So far I haven't seen anything that states what type SDHC card the camera requires. I found a computer memory site that that sells memory that they say will work. There may be others.
