Question about Sharp AR-168D Copier
We have a Sharp AR-168D Copier. It has an error symbol that stays on in a triangle and it flashes that we need service. I had a service guy come to our small business to see what was wrong with our unit. He did not know but said it could be the toner cartridge and I told I him I just put in a new one. So then he said well it could be that you need a new developer unit but he was not for sure. Then he said well you might need a new fuser unit. Basically he had not worked on Sharp products. So how do you tell. I do know that the fuser unit gets really hot after using it. We have processed approx 25,500 copied thru our machine. Can you direct me in the right direction. Also our copies are faint on the auto setting so we are constantly adjusting the manual setting but it just started doing that about 2 months ago.

Your light is either a developer or a periodic maintenance indicator. Both are set to 25,000 copies. There is no indicator for the fuser which is rated at 50,000 copies (I find they fail any time after approx 35,000) The fuser will eventually not be able to keep itself clean causing dirty offset copies or jamming under the fuser picker fingers.There is no indicator for the drum . At 25,000 the drum and developer should be changed to maintain good copy quality. Whether your pm indicator lamp will shut down your machine is based on a service setting but since your past 25,000 it's probably set to not stop.
