Re: Wavy picture

You have problems with your power supply filters. I'd suggest you to change the mainfilter, that is the capacitor just after the ac rectifier and the b+ filter, that is the capacitor at the output of the smps, and then vertical filter and video filter. These are all capacitors with higher microfarad ratings, if you are not much comfortable, it's better to get some help from someone who is familiar with these. Pay attention not to reverse the polarity when changing the capacitors.

Picture is wavy then fine, happens every two minutes

This model like several others had problems with what is called a Hyper board inside which processes all signal inside the set.

From a Toshiba service bulletin:

No: PJTV200503 2 Pages Ref: WU032505
Product: Projection TV Date: 3/25/05
Models: 42H81,43HX71, 43H71, 50HX81, 50H71, 50H81, 53HX71, 53H71, 57HX81, 57H81, 61H71, 65HX81 AND 65H81
Product Safety Precautions:
Product Safety Precautions are described in the Toshiba service manual(s) for models covered in this bulletin. All safety precautions and checks shall be complied with before returning the equipment to the customer. Servicers who defeat safety features or fail to perform safety checks may-be liable for any resulting damages and may expose themselves and others to possible injury.
Application: The information contained in this bulletin applies only if you encounter the symptom(s) listed below.
Subject: MVPU13 Hyper Module Repair (23786198 / 23148017X)
Symptom: Multiple Symptoms may be experienced depending on which capacitor is faulty. The primary symptoms are jagged, digitized or pie crusting of the picture. The set may also be described with a poor sync condition.
Corrective Action: Remove the MVUP13 Hyper Module from the TV chassis, remove the top shield and replace the 10uf, 16v capacitors using Part Number 24619040 as shown in Figure 1. It's recommended that all of the capacitors identified in Figure 1 be replaced. (Note: These capacitors are low impedance surface mounted aluminum electrolytic capacitors. Care should be taken to avoid damaging the PCB while replacing these capacitors.)

There are several surface mounted capacitors that dry out with age and usually the problem starts out when first turned on and then eventually after on a long enough time the set works--the time will get longer as the problem gets worse.

The board is no longer available and only two options here: locate and replace all the selected caps which is not a do it yourself job or remove the board and send it out for rebuild.

Let me know if you need more info as I have seen dozens of these sets with this kind of problem.

When you turn the TV on, the picture is a narrow wavy horizontal line for about 1/2 hour. Then the picture goes full screen

Your vertical IC needs to be resoldered and change the capacitors in that immediate area. Always check for bad grounds [cracked rings around the pins, look real close to find] on any and all ICS mounted on heatsinks. And large resistors as well.

Pictures goes to distorded wavy lines.

This could be attributed to tuning reception of your tv. If your using antenna only, it is most probable. If cable, check your line.

If this is a crt type, moving that tv with that size could somehow bend its circuit board. Loose connection is a probability. Could be some minor component is detached from solder. This can be attributed to tuner and vertical IC.

Just for an input.

I have a phillips tube t.v that shows a wavy horizontal line

If the set works fine intermittently it may be a loose connection or a bad solder joint. More likely the later. Heat will sometimes make a cold or broken solder joint work. If this changes when you lightly tap on the side of the TV you have a bad connection of sorts inside. These repairs can be expensive unless you find a good repair person.
The syncronizing signals in TV's (keeping the picture locked in) are around the high voltage transformer which is usually the heaviest component attached to the circuit boards. It's stressful over time and I've seen the solder connections crack and become intermittent.

Bad picture

Hi Dan,
It sounds as if you have a bad filter capacitor in your power supply. Check the main filter caps rated at 150 volts and above. It's likely one is leaking and need immediate attention. I hope this helped. Good Luck

RCA F32450 32" TV wavy picture

Most RCA repairs on your chassis series require a new IHVT,
AKA flyback transformer . Inside an Integrated HVT are diodes
that can degrade and give the appearance of a bad cap....
Of course, you should check the electrolytics with an ESR
meter, just in case....
