Re: Bearing replaced on Dryer

The first place is to check you incoming power a dryer will rotate but wont heat if ony one leg of the 220v pwr is coming in do you have a meter to test ?? you can also go to the breaker panel turn off and back on the breaker as a weak breaker will do this if you have done this and still no heat you will need a meter to check some things also if you remove the 3 screws on the panel between the washer and dryer you will see the element.Make sure to turn the pwr off before touching any wire connections..Let me know what you come up with

Hi Gene, I have an Electrolux FEX831C30 stacked washer and dryer. the drum in the dryer has completely come loose and has dropped to the bottom of the dryer cabinet. there were two screws in the drum. what...

Good Morning Brian,

The reason the drum has fallen free from the rear is a defective rear drum bearing and that drum bearing that has sheared itself off of the bearing repair that dryer ya would need to replace the bearing kit its part number 5303281153 and would be in stock at your local applince parts store or online at,,,, or

Before replacing the drum the drum bearing you should also inspect the heat element since when the bearing shears off its not that uncommon for the drum to fall onto the heater shroud and also break the heat element

While this Youtube video i have included the link to shows how to replace the drum bearing in a full siz e free standing (not stacked laundry center) dryer the process of how to replace the rear drum beaqring is exactly the same and that video should help ya

Good luck,i hope ya find it very simple to replace that bearing,

Dryer heats up but does not rotate - only squeals

Check to see if the dryer drum will turn by hand. If not, look for a sock or other small garment that may be wedged between the drum and the dryer. It's remotely possible that the bearing has seized.

If the drum turns fairly easily by hand, the belt is probably loose (worn and stretched) and needs replacement. Check for the part and a how-to video, if you want to try to repair it yourself.

The dryer to my Frigidair FEX831CS top Loaded Stacked Washer/Dryer is making a scweeing sound. Do we need to replace a belt?

Could be one of 4 problems:
  1. Worn or loose drum drive belt (Looks like a large fan belt) (New belt cost $8)
  2. The rear bearing(s) is bad and needs replacing (part cost $18)
  3. The front bearing guide(Sleeve) is worn (Part cost 2@$18.00
  4. Possible that the fan is loose from the motor and hitting housing.
All of the above are easy do at home repairs if you re handy. You should be able to get a good idea of what is wrong just by turning the dryer drum by hand. If the problem is the front bearing or guides, you will hear a grinding noise in the front at the top of the door.

It is most likely due to the motor capacitor being faulty.
Generally a white plastic or aluminium cased cylinder with 2 connectors on it. Each connector may have a couple of wires in it.

My dryer makes this high pitch screaming noise...what's going on?

In the cradle where the center drum bearing fits is a plastic bearing mounted on a metal bracket. When that plastic bearing wears down the ball begins to contact the metal bracket. Bad things are ahead also. Because now as the drum turn the bracket is cutting into the ball.c44ef56.jpg

Found two screws sheared off in the dryer, and now the drum won't spin

There are 6 screws inside the dryer drum. Three toward the center of the back hold the drum to the socket bearing. The three further out hold the heating element housing to the drum. With two of the bearing screws missing it might can mis align it enough so that the belt won't turn it. There are screws on the back and top to begin looking for the problem.

Dryer makes noise when turning like bearings going or belt squeek

check the following -
It's noisy
If your dryer is noisy, check these:

Idler pulley
Rear drum bearing
Blower wheel

Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time.

Idler pulley
Dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it.

Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them.

Rear drum bearing
Some dryers support the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle may be a ball-and-socket type support or a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn.

Blower wheel
Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. The blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time. But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you probably need to replace it.

good luck.....

My kenmore 417.94812301 staked washer / dryer problem

Your dryer was made by Frigidaire and needs what is called a rear bearing kit (#5303281153 costs about $30) from frigidaire.
there is also a good chance that your bearing failed because the dryer overheated (overheating is mostly caused by the venting being restricted)
