Dvd tray won't open ILO DVDHD04

Does anybody know if there's any way to fix these trays? I've read the 05 has a little emergency slot to use to get the tray to open but the 04 does not have this.

Re: dvd tray won't open ILO DVDHD04

Most times it is dust causing problems. Carefully take the unit apart and clean all moving parts related to the tray including the belt, drive wheel Tray slides and motor wheel with Iso Pro obtainable at your local electronics shop. Be careful of touching electronic parts and the head. Do not clean the head slides, they are greased and meant to be. If this fails it could be a slipping belt or weak eject motor. Do not power it up with the lens exposed as this could damage your eyes. The cause of the Jam is that the head mount does not go fully down when the eject is pressed, this locks the tray. It requires a initial greater force to start eject as it has to release the head mount and make it drop all the way to its rest position to release the tray. This is not happening and is a common problem. To take apart, the front tray plate slides off to the top and the face plate clips out after the panels, top and bottom are removed, In some cases only the bottom needs removing to enable the face plate removal without damage. Do not use excessive force when removing or you will break it. Hope this helps

If the player skips, make sure that the DVD disc is not dirty or scratched..Use the cleaner disk buy it from R. Shack.
If the tray won't open or close properly, check the belt for dirt or wear. Then check the tray for misalignment. If needed, remove, clean, lubricate, and reinstall the tray following the instructions in the owner's manual.

DVD Player tray Door Continues to Open

I had this problem and it turned out to be the gears on the door drive. There are two gears, one that engages the rack on the tray and one that has a slot that drives the clamping action to hold the DVD. These two gears were misaligned by one tooth. This prevented the gear with the slot from turning freely after the door was closed.
To fix it I had to take out the tray assembly, disasemble it, and reassemble it with the gears properly aligned. You need to remove the top and back of the case. Then take out two screws at the rear of the tray assembly and three screws on the circuit board attached to the tray assembly. Unplug the connections to that board. Slide out the tray assembly. Now you can pop the top off of the tray assembly by pulling out two tabs and sliding the top toward the rear. Now you can get to the gears to adjust them. The slotted gear should be able to turn freely for about 1/4 turn when the tray is closed. Make sure the pin on the clamping part is in the slot when you reassemble it.

  1. Ensure the child lock feature is disabled.
  2. IMPORTANT: If necessary, consult the instruction manual for specific steps about how to disable the child lock feature.
  3. Attempt to open the disc tray.
  4. If the issue is not resolved, turn off the DVD player.
  5. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet for 30 seconds.
  6. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
  7. Attempt to open the disc tray.
  8. If the disc tray still does not open, simultaneously press the POWER+STOP+EJECT buttons; this will sometimes cause the disc tray to open.
If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required. The Sony® eService Web site at can assist you in obtaining service from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer.

DVD player tray will not open

Maybe this will help someone look in the right direction. A friend gave me a KISS DP-1000 with the same problem: The TV showed the 'Eject' graphic, and nothing happened. There is no little hole that you can poke a paperclip in, like on a PC. I opened the player, and still could not find anything. Then I googled the model of the actual tray mechanism (DSL-710A). The datasheet said that it did have an 'emergency eject' machanism, operated by a Philips screw at the bottom of the tray. There are no holes at the bottom of the DP-1000, only a dimple that dead-ends. I broke through the bottom of the dimple with a small, flat, screwdriver, then enlarged the hole. I felt around with a medium Philips and it fitted into something. I twisted gently, and the tray popped out. Why KISS covered the 'emergency eject' screw is anybody's guess, but I am not buying any of their products.
