An authentic Rolex will have a screw down back with exactly 144 small teeth. You can only open a Rolex case with a special Rolex tool (Key). We use the Bergeon hand wrench to open Rolex cases. Supplied with 6 Bergeon grooved chucks(18.50, 20.20, 22.50, 26.50, 28.30 and 29.50 mm), these are the same chuck used in the Bergeon 5700RO and will fit in the Bergeon Bit Adpater for 5700-Z Case Opener our number FB-231. Replacement chucks and replacement handle are available in case you have a set that is missing a piece. As is the case with any fine mechanical instrument, special tools are required in order to properly service and adjust a precision instrument such as a fine timepiece. If you are not experienced, it is better to leave this to a Certified Rolex tech. If you do feel you want to proceed, this tool will set you back about $140.00 or so. Just as the internal parts of the Rolex are exact, so is the watch case that protect the valuable watch movement. These tools are used to open the Rolex case without causing expensive damage. You can call Bob Frei at 510-832-0355 ext. 2 from 11 AM to 5 PM Pacific Time Zone, to order one if you wish, or several other sellers of these fine tools can be found by doing a little research on the net. Hope this has helped you.

Its time for a service.
Take it to any Rolex re-seller that offers repair or to any good timepiece service center. If its a vintage piece i would recommend sending it to Rolex, paying the extra cost to receive the watch with full Rolex repair documents and service history. The Rolex web site has information on this. Also this company does a fine job on Rolex repair. https://www.bobswatches.com/rolex-repair-service

I got a president day date rolex, sometime the date jump twice in 1 day

Reset the time, day and date manually from scratch. Check for another 24 hours. If the problem persists that means there is interference between day and date wheels and in this case you will need watchmakers help, as to correct such a fault the watch needs to be disassembled almost completely.

Its not unheard of depending on the age of the watch (you say you purchased it 16 months ago but it could be a 15 year old watch.) If it was a new Rolex watch you have a 5 year warranty, so it should cost you nothing. If it was a pre-owned Rolex you should have received a warranty from your jeweler, most of those are 2 years. If this is a watch with value, and one you will either hand down or at some point resell then sending an older watch to Rolex is the proper direction - save all the repair documents, with the original receipt and the box. A Rolex Explorer II in good condition in US is about $5k, so $380 for a repair, though high, is worth it. I would recommend that if you do send it to Rolex for this repair and it is an older watch have it serviced too. The watch is returned to you in perfect condition with fill documentation.
Lastly, you need not to send it to Rolex at all. Any good watchmaker/repair jeweler can do this for less than $380US.

How can i find out if my rolex is a fake? i have a rolex daytona.in the back of the watch just has rolex NO8668. just asking becouse can't find any place to repair it in my little town where i live.

Hi, please ignore the above for it has no relation to your question. The Daytona does not have a date window so would not have a magnification window. If your Daytona has anything engraved on the rear of it, its highly likely to be fake, as Rolex did not engrave the rear of their watches. The second hand on your watch should be the small sub dial at the 6 o'clock position, this moves round continuously. The large second hand should also move round the face once the top pusher is pushed, pushing it again will stop it. Pressing the bottom pusher will reset all the needles back to 12, except the 6 o'clock dial, as this is seconds. If you remove the bracelet from the watch, you should have a series of numbers in between the lugs of the watch, where the strap would of been (before you removed it) At the top, (12 o'clock position) it will have the model reference number. For instance ROLEX DESIGN 116509 On the other side, at 6 o'clock, it will have a serial number, for instance F520773. The F number is what dates the watch.. F is 2005. If you wish to email me the numbers on your Rolex, I will check it for you, free of charge. Email is tom@luxurysauce.com If you have opened the watch, you should also have the watches model reference i.e 116509 stamped into the case back. I can arrange repair for this watch, whatever movement it has inside. Website is luxury sauce dot com, you can contact me via the website.

My men's presidential date just is very difficult to wind. I try to wear it often, but it quits. The winding mechanism is so stiff that I can only partially wind it. It does move easily in the oposite...

If it has only recently gone stiff then it sound like a trip to the dealer for repair.

It may sound daft but all the Rolex I have examined are self winders. Is yours? (you can often hear the self winding mechanism by placing the watch close to your ear and rocking it gently).

Could it be that you need to pull out the crown to wind it?

ROLEX QUICK-SET FEATURE

1) un-screw the pin by turning it towards you, until the spring pops it out. 2) pull the pin out to the next notch 3) turn the pin towards you and watch the date change (if the minute hand is moving when you turn the pin, you pulled out too far).
